This is straight up some of the best Star Trek I've seen in any medium in about a quarter of a century.
It nails the characters' voices and motivations and back stories. It has a philosophical point to make.
And most of all it has something politically relevant to say. It draws blood.

But my feeling is- not keen. But I'm not a big fan of the 2009 version of Kirk.
The writer manages to have Kirk sound exactly like his 1960s TV incarnation, and yet say the words "video game", and it sounds completely natural. Just amazing.
TBH, while it makes sense for the character's arc, even with TOS-cast-movie Kirk you start to see some of those fine details blur away towards the shagabout renegade archetype.
Re-watching the original series recently, it has a such a solid style and writing foundation. All thought through and built upon with each episode, without them being serially connected.
