I think you should all read Jon Chait's piece and so I am gifting it to you.

if someone is pointing a gun at you, putting on a bulletproof vest is the least offensive course of action.
This pardon was wrong. I get it, because dad, but that's what makes it so wrong.
Also, this will neither cause nor prevent a single sickening pardon that T has planned going forward.

These are the same journalists who will catalog literally 30,000 lies by Trump but dare not utter the word 'hypocrisy" in his presence.
sorrynotsorry
Isn't that how we got into this mess?
Majority voted for someone completely void of principles.
You can’t bring a stick to a gun fight.
Majority of voters voted for someone else.
And way too many registered and eligible voters didn’t bother.
Just look at the way Putin and Kim Jong Un have had dissidents' family members make show confessions.
Chait's piece is another example of a stubborn resistance to acknowledging the obsolescence of last century's politics
The article is essentially a defense of a political Maginot Line. Dems place their faith in anchored institutions & then watch gobsmacked as Republicans invade Belgium
The other can do what it wants.
Do you know where that path led us?
Right flipping here.
Biden's selfish decision to run for relection, however, may end up bringing about the destruction of humankind.
But sure, let's talk about the two things as if they are the same.
I see your point, but I disagree. Better legal minds than mine argued the sentence was ridiculous at the time.

Biden and the dems do. You couldn’t have done better in the face of racism, misogyny and the right wing propaganda machine.
As a legal matter Hunter Biden appeared to be a politically motivated prosecution. From a societal norms standard the bird flew 20 years ago. From a historical standard doesn’t crack the top 10.
Taking it out on Hunter helps no one. And it doesn’t give anything to Trump he didn’t already have.
Democrats have the wealthy states and a thin GOP house majority and the Presidency for the next month. These are weapons to be used.
Joe Biden pardoning his son did *nothing* to affect the “defense of the country.”
Presidents have issued political pardons before, including to family members.
Hunter would never have seen a courtroom if his last name wasn’t Biden.
Trump has said he’ll persecute him.
No foul.
And I don't particularly like this pardon. But it sure is less egregious than, say, Clinton pardoning his shitty brother. There's the bad precedent; long forgotten.
But Trump left him know choice when his appointments made.clear, that Trump was seeking retribution, against his enemies with little to no regard for the law.
But Biden has to follow the pristine line or else his integrity crumbles. IMO I think he was standing for principles; GOP punishment wouldn't fit the crime.
Trump escaped accountability for rape, defamation, 17 counts of tax fraud, 34 felonies, obstructing Justice with 4 pallets of documents not returned, scheming 84 fake electors in 7 states, for 1/6/21, & the 14th Amendment, Sec 3.
SCOTUS & MAGA say the constitution doesn’t matter.
Going forward, we must protect people and our Constitution from the Trump administration.
Nothing.
Else.
Matters.
Not norms, not decorum, not appearances, not precedent.
Nothing.
I saw some holes in Jon's article based on updates I remember reading from Marcy's reporting on Hunter's trial.
She'll likely weigh in on some of these convos.

But sure let’s run around with our hair on fire because Biden has set a bad precedent and undermined our precious norms. 🤡
apparently 'open season' on the son of a sitting Democratic President is on
a bunch of traitorous Republicans have their 'game ticket' in hand, ready to renew the hunt
I hope he takes a dump in the top left drawer of the resolute desk too.
Is that wrong????
Not enough to throw him in jail and he surely was prosecuted differently because of his name.
But saying he did nothing wrong is wrong.
Otherwise you end up being like those who speak just because they want to be on Fox News
Okay
Until then, good for Joe.
Hunter paid the taxes & fines. The gun charge was unreasonable.
Your columnist over pious behavior is a bad look.
sounds like pres elect to me
Biden said exactly what his audience wanted to hear. There was talk about his age in the 2020 primary, so he talked about being a “transitional” president. Once elected, he had a change of heart (and transitioned the country into fascism. 1/n
But also, I’m conflicted as I do think it’s clear that Trump and his thug mentality is going to bring awful things. I’d support Biden doing more blanket pardons to try and insulate and protect the country a little.
These are days.
It’s horrific I sound like MAGA but a broken clock is right twice a day!!!!
“Important principles may and must be inflexible.” -Abraham Lincoln.
Seriously, who’s smarter. Chait or Lincoln?
The whole prosecution was indeed total weaponization of the DOJ. Too bad Garland was in the coma and unable to apply such prosecution against the people, well, orange chud, who deserved it.
He hasn't even signed the ethics pledge ffs!
