I remember LONG ago, when it was first invented, it was a bit squiffy & unreliable, but for the last two decades it has only gotten more robust, it seems to me.

I mean, it was always the handmaiden of the ultrarich, but now the ultrarich are richer, and there's no profit in selling the facts. There's profit in lying. Convincingly and comprehensively.
The people attacking it are the opposite of those things, except for the widely accessible part.
