I'm not as fond of your culture posts (which I never comment on -- cause really who wants to have their yum yukked), but THIS as my students would say, is FIRE!
Bugs: Oh what do they do on a rainy night in Rio, a rikytikytik, oh what do they do when there is no starry sky, oh starry sky? What do they do when they can’t go for a WALK? Do they just sit and TALK? Or do they sit and sigh? Eye-iii…
Giovanni: What do they do in Mississippi when skies get drippy?
Bugs: MY GIRL is a real high stepper, GINGER with salt & pepper, she’s a fancy stepper when she dances, go & see her as she kippers & prances, MY GIRL don’t do much talkin, DANCES even when she’s walkin—
Giovanni: 1 & 2 & 3 & 4 she dances all day long! Uuuuuuuuhhhhhooooohhhh!!!!!!
Unrelated: Is using tariffs the only way to bring back domestic manufacturing? Could we use tax incentives/ other means? Tax imported goods with higher sales tax, cut sales tax on domestic. Why is destroying goodwill the only way? Why aren’t dems saying that? Or am I dumbass, and this is happening?
This was misunderstood. I was asking what simple alternatives to dumb tariffs could be used to bring back manufacturing. And if there are, and maybe even if there aren’t, why aren’t the opposition beating Trump over the head with it, now or ever. Not a Trump supporter. I want dems to fight harder
Biden's CHIPS act was already bringing back the US chip making industry with billions of dollars from Korea & Taiwan invested in building foundries in the US. Trump says he's repealing that. So does he want to bring strategic US manufacturing back or not? He even f-ed up the steelmaking deal in PA.
Not commenting so much on the economics of it, but the messaging. Trump et al get away with saying mfg will benefit from tariffs like it’s a law of nature. Why isn’t anyone saying anything other than tariffs are dumb? They are dumb, but a simple effective counter message would be helpful to dems.
Bringing mfg back to the US would make products even more expensive. Our labor costs a lot. They built plants in China & elsewhere to lower US mfg costs to increase their profit margin. If things were made here, we'd REALLY be complaining about prices.
Part of why they are trying to kill unions.
If you listen to Ron Insanna (spelling?) of CNBC, he was on MSNBC the other day explaining exactly that. But magas only watch Fox & no one there will explain it.
Sez Michael Forest: “To give you an idea, they had to put tape on my nipples for that episode. Can you imagine? They put tape on a guy, on a guy’s nipples. I mean, come on. But that’s what they did, and then they put makeup over that.”
