US wine merchant says on CNN that Cdn restaurants will suffer because they can't offer customers CA wines. I guess he's unaware of our excellent wines from Kelowna, Niagara, Peelee Is., Prince Edward County. #BuyCanadian

And the Annapolis Valley in #NovaScotia. I don't actually know anyone who drinks Californian wine anymore.
For me, it's mostly it's either local (I'm in NS), or Vinho Verde (green wines are *fantastic*). Same for my friends here, or Prosceco/Cava, or ye olde standard French and Italian #wines.
Absolutely. Like Niagara, Essex and Prince Edward County in Ontario, you could easily do a week's vacation in wine country and have a great time! Essex and the County have beautiful beaches and artisans as well. Won't be spending tourism dollars in the U.S. for the next 4 years!
Yes.
And when we have a hankering for international: does he forget how many of us are French? Italian?
And then there's the fine Scottish Scotch 🏴!
Hysterical! How uneducated can they be! In addition to the fantastic Canadian wines we have, we've always enjoyed sipping wines from around the world, including: France, Italy, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, to name just a few. Personally, I rarely drink Californian.
The thing that merchants in the US should be concerned with is that we are now taking the time to thoughtfully assess where our purchases come from . We will find new sources. We may not go back to the old suppliers.
My spouse and I used to drink mostly reds, but I can't any longer due to a health issue which affects my palate. He still does, and he and one of his sisters really like Baco Noir. Trying to remember which one she really likes...
Yup. Canada has a number of wine regions, and more as the climate gets warmer. And we can also buy wine from elsewhere around the world. In fact, I'd say the CA wines are "out of fashion" here. Australian and NZ wines are very popular, as are French, Italian, S. African, Chilean, etc.
Local is best! And in that, I include BC and Nova Scotia! Also Essex County in Ontario. You can have a great staycation touring Canadian wineries in several regions!
I don’t like the taste personally, but a percent of sales goes to help underprivileged Canadian kids get into hockey and Ringuette. And boycotting would mean a loss of Ontario jobs. (fyi)
The arrogance is sooo predictable. Yes, I used to buy California wine fairly regularly. No, I will not be doing this again any time soon. There are an infinite number of fabulous wines. Great Canadian wines. Plus Italy, France, New Zealand, Chile and on and on ..,
It's pretty hard to get wine from other provinces (which is stupid) but we can buy from Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Brazil, (not sure where all because I usually buy BC)
Yup, a lot of fruit is grown, for example, in Essex County near Windsor, where there's a burgeoning greenhouse agricultural industry as well as traditional farming. There's also a winery near Woodstock which makes some lovely fruit-flavoured wines.
Thank you for your interest we are located in the East cooties Columbia Valley British Columbia our products are quite popular if you get a chance our web page is Sophie's original choice we need to expand we sell out all the time you have a great day
Bet he also doesn't realize Canadians also
love Australian and New Zealand, Italian and French wines. I love the better Greek wines, too. Haven't had a Californian in years!
Don’t forget the German wines too. I love California & Californians, but they need to be in the streets with pitchforks hunting down the people responsible for what their government is doing. Especially since they will be first to face the brunt of tariffs when trying to rebuild after the fires.
Please keep in mind that MOST US wines still use Round-up on their grapes. It is a herbicide called glyphosate. I know Canadian wines do as well however, there are restrictions. I think we will do fine without their wine/whine.
We are a proud sovereign nation and we'll be damned if Trump thinks he can ruin us and take over our country. Huge grassroots movement right now to #BuyCanadian, it's uniting the country. Our economy is one of the most stable in the world.
I can totally back this. I live in Kelowna and spent 8 years living in SW Germany in the wine growing region along the Rhine. The wines here in Kelowna are as good as or better than what I drank in Europe. #BuyCanadian
90% of Americans can’t name their neighbouring state. They would call it ‘fake news’ if you told them Canada has award winning wines. They’ve been cult-raised to believe they are the best at everything in the world.
Canadians will not "suffer" as I am sure their pleasure in boycotting US wines will be greater than the loss of a few bottles. They can get wine from South America #BuyCanadian
Nice, I’m always impressed when a Restauranteur or Chef Owner has taken the time to source interesting VQA Wines, attention to little the details matter.
I'm very proud of my son and his business partner. They support a number of craft breweries, we're already buying largely Cdn spirits, and were very innovative in surviving COVID. Their regulars helped keep them afloat, then, too!
Italy, Australia, NZ, Spain, S. Africa, Chile, Argentina, Greece (some beautiful wines, although not well known). And someone said here in reply today that Lebanon is also producing wine!
Besides the fact that Canadians have access to Canadian & other countries wines, we're not so shallow as to even think about 'suffering' because we can't get a certain wine ... WHEN OUR COUNTRY IS BEING ATTACKED.
Big, big difference between countries, you underestimate us.
And we're pissed.
Yup, we are. And we're a resourceful people. We will find our own ways to retaliate. I talked to my spouse yesterday about wanting to #BuyCanadian only, and to my surprise, he agreed! (He's a foodie, so I thought he wouldn't want to be limited.)
Lots of wine grown in Windsor Essex County where I live .Our warm climate makes for some beautiful wines..Crew,Southwood Estates and so on.We also in summer have trolley wine tours 💕🇨🇦
That's right, I should have remembered. My spouse is from Leamington, and we've visited some great wineries in Essex County! Thank you for the reminder. See, Canadians, start trying some of our wonderful Canadian wines!
Leamington 💕 I’m just a few minutes away in Essex..although not born and bred here(west coast girl) there are some wonderful surprises here .I remember tasting a peach grown by the water in leamington and thinking it was the best tasting thing ever 😂
OMG… I live less than an hour from all of the Okanagan’s finest wineries !
We like California wine in sangria where it won’t matter and cheap is best lol.
I think Jost is one recommended to me by the Liquor Control Board of Ontario (LCBO), as I can't drink any wine that's too acidic. Thanks for the recommendation!
No one will suffer. Canada will replace Californian wines and move along. Canadians can hold grudges until death. Those grudges are forever. Generational grudges. My kids have been told since 2016 that America is not Canada's friend. This is a generational war.
In fact, Pierre Trudeau first came to power on a wave of national pride and patriotism the LAST time the U.S. government speculated about a "51st State"!
Imagine if you believe suffering is not being able to have a Californian red. Australia makes very similar wines to California if the Cab Sauve is your thing, but suffer? Fucking seriously.

Is it safe to keep eating stuff from the US?
fucking trumpanzees
I can't think of a time I'd have chosen an American wine over...well any other country's.
Niagara's award-winning wines and spirits are first choice.
