Defy. Europe has a lot of power when it comes to regulation. All the tech companies that tried to bend the EU ended up complying in the end. For now, the EU market is still one they can’t afford to lose.

Absolutely their right to defend US businesses abroad, but don’t disguise it as protection of free speech and political engagement.
There is plenty of examples around the world suggesting that the EU has the right/duty to defend itself against the evident harm of online mis/disinformation.
