Ian Fleming's original James Bond novels haven't aged well. For example, Moonraker - published almost exactly 70 years ago in April 1955 - features a villain who's a super-rich industrialist and rocket-maker seeking to cause chaos because he's a secret Nazi. Such a silly idea!

Three things that make the U.S. the envy of the world: 1) Professionalized military with strong norm of civilian control 2) Higher education and cutting-edge scientific research 3) Ability to welcome immigrants and attract the “best and the brightest” All three are under threat.

I'm not having Fraser Nelson playing dumb on the rise of racism on the right after years spent printing Murray, Liddle, Taki and Shriver. I literally had a DM row with him years ago where I said this would happen.

Byline Times is facing major DDOS (malicious traffic-flooding) issues on our site apparently after this article went live... bylinetimes.com/2025/02/21/d...

BBC News on hour reporting straight that Trump has got rid of military chiefs because ‘they’re too mired in woke culture’ 🤯🤯🤯 Traditional liberal democratic media still hasn’t learned how to report on authoritarians, even now when it’s almost too late

Waiting to hear from all the “Trump-Russia was a hoax” crew and somehow they’ve evaporated into nothingness

When ordered by Nazis to give lists of disabled people by disability severity, some doctors sent back exaggerated data to protect patients from forced work They didn't know that the "most disabled" were to be killed first The moral here isn't to tell the truth It's to never co-operate with Nazis

Hopefully any weapons bought by Ukraine with European money will not be used to bolster the US defence industry but, instead, to help support an independent European defence capacity.

This ought to be top of the UK government's thinking re Palantir's role in the NHS. The dependency risk is not theoretical under Trump 2.0

Worst. Episode. EVER.

The Gleichschaltung of the US military begins.

There wont be peace until Russia is majorly defeated. So please stop dreaming and get to work defeating Russia instead.

This is how it’s done.

We're close to diplomatic midnight. https://open.substack.com/pub/htsf/p/were-close-to-diplomatic-midnight?r=2sidg&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

It’s called Gleichschaltung. And German history shows us where it can end. Again: we have the knowledge; we have the right words. That the US could still get to this point is such a terrible failure.

Wow… massive own goal

The weaponization of US technology companies means we should treat our dependence on them as a national security threat ↘️

Russian forces currently occupy around 20 percent of Ukraine. At the current rate of advance, it would take Russian forces over 83 years to capture the remaining 80 percent of Ukraine, assuming that they can sustain massive personnel losses indefinitely. isw.pub/UkraineFacts...

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

I’d like to think I’m the first person to get into a flame war with VPOTUS from the swimming pool of Woburn Center Parcs at half-term.

I think people are missing the reality of the growing US-Russian alliance under Putin and Trump. Its not going to force a ceasefire on Ukraine, it will be to help Russia try to win the war. The US is now an active enemy of freedom.

A former Soviet spy says that Trump was indeed recruited to the KGB 38 years ago by his department. He was given a codename, 'Krasnov'. We checked, and the source was indeed a KBG intelligence officer at the time. Read about it in my @bylinetimes.bsky.social report: bylinetimes.com/2025/02/21/d...

Look, when the parliamentary leader of the Rassemblement national refuses to appear at CPAC thanks to Bannon giving a "provocative gesture that resembled the controversial salute Elon Musk gave at a post-inauguration rally last month", you should just acknowledge that these guys are fucking Nazis!

Zelensky is perhaps the defining figure of our age. Brave, ingenious, pragmatic and defined by his convictions. They hate him because he kills fascists.

Should Poland have nuclear weapons? The majority of respondents answered yes. The first effects of Trump's policy are emerging.

Half a century ago, at the height of the Cold War, I was a conscripted NCO with a forward-based Dutch artillery battalion in West Germany. In case of war between NATO and the Warsaw Pact, our unit was expected to be destroyed in 1.5 (!) days. Yet, I find the current situation MUCH more frightening.

OTD in 2000 Ukraine sent its final strategic bomber to Russia. Having given up strategic arms and so having no long-range ability to threaten Russia, Ukraine was subsequently rewarded with invasion and supplied with limitless grave concern.

We can say, without any doubt, that social media conspiracism now rules the world. If that doesn't prompt some serious rethinking about social media and its regulation, I don't know what will.

For anyone who needs this reminder ... "Whoever is winning at the moment will always seem to be invincible." - George Orwell

Here we go. Certain generals must be removed before any martial law plan is put into action—as Trump and Hegseth are worried there may still be some generals out there who support the Constitution rather than his proposed dictatorship. This is a political purge intended as a precursor to far more.

The past ten years has just been the same clutch of morons and apologists insisting that Trump would never cross that line and then shuffling along with him to insist that he would never cross that next one.

My warmest greetings go out to the wonderful people who built their careers sniffing out “Ukrainian Nazis” under every stone in Ukraine for tasty headlines that fueled Russian war propaganda on this-is-why-Ukraine-must-be-dealt-with, only to get Nazi salutes normalized in their own country.

Russia's economic struggles have been & will continue to be closely tied to Russia's battlefield weaknesses. The West must couple economic instruments with increased military aid to Ukraine to enable Ukrainian forces to maintain pressure on the battlefield & exacerbate Russia's economic issues.(1/2)

🧵 REVEALED: Major intelligence report shows a transforming Russia in 2025 - more dangerous yet surprisingly vulnerable. Here's what we learned... (1/13)

The battle of our day is no longer about Democrats versus Republicans or left versus right. The choice right now is democracy or dictatorship. And we're sliding faster than I ever thought possible into the latter. Everyone must choose which side they’re on. Now.

Powerful message from Orest Drymalovsky, a Ukrainian soldier. In his previous life he was a TV host.

Europeans have to realize 3 things: 1. Trump prefers Putin over democratic Europeans. 2. Trump: "our friends are worse than our enemies" so the "friends" are no longer friends. 3. Trump has ended NATO & US support for democracies.

Europeans need to work on the assumption that Trump won’t support us militarily and he won’t uphold NATO. But we are almost 600 million people, have the army most experienced in fighting Russia (Ukraine), advanced technology and two nuclear powers. Time to get to work. 🧵

It seems to be necessary to say this daily, so again any analysis of US ability to shape geopolitical outcomes that does not take Trump and Musk's destruction of US state and military capacity into account is disconnected from reality
