My paucity of ambition is such, that my greatest achievement is putting together a pretend MENSA quiz and getting it mentioned in NTK*. It did take me about 20 questions to make the same point you have in one post, however.

One thing I don't get is... does everyone in the US take IQ tests? I'm just a lowly something something IT guy, but my wife is a doctor and I know a couple of people with PhDs, and none of them have any idea what their IQ is.

I genuinely suspect most of them have just taken some guff online test claiming to be an official IQ measurement tool and accepted it at face value. Which someone with an actual high-IQ wouldn't do.

At (public) school we were given IQ tests. Mine apparently came out quite high. But try as I might, I never found out what it was. I was one of the problem pupils: no good at sports, too disruptive to be the sort of academic high flier they could lionise. So, instead they ignored me. 🤷‍♂️

Autism, at a time when it was little understood. I may have ADHD, never been assessed for it but a lot of the possible symptoms feel all too familiar. I got a good education, sure, but in an environment which favoured competition and permitted bullying.

Yes. Never figured out what that was all about. And that was fairly early on in my time there. Was at least a year or two more before they realised they’d put me in the wrong year, should have been in the one below, and made me repeat the year…

Let’s face it. There are many facets to “intelligence” and capability in one area doesn’t guarantee capability in another. If you are good at IQ tests you may or may not be intelligent in other areas. That’s one element in what makes people interesting,
