“Of course you can’t say that anymore.” “Yes, you can. You just said it. But people tend not to say it. It’s just not very funny.”

Having failed to exclude Zelenskyy, they sought to bully him. Having failed to bully him, they sought to bribe him. Having failed to bribe him, they sought to discredit him. Maybe they will get round him one way or another, but you can see how frustrated they are at him holding on.

This is significant. Farage is meeting Musk’s preconditions for bankrolling Reform UK.

What I’m trying to understand is why Trump is rescuing Putin from three years of failure in Ukraine? Anyone understand this? It seems the stupidest error in geopolitics since August 1914

Trump has undermined the post-war consensus. It has never been clearer that Britain's future lies with Europe.

I’m sorry. You can’t conduct “peace talks” with Russia over its invasion of Ukraine without Ukraine at the table.

Oh, yes!

Yes, yes. A thousand times yes ..... oh, hold on a minute. Hunstanton's up in arms.

Good one. Macmillan generally underrated. Plus he read Jane Austen in bed. Gotta like him.

Vance was right on just one thing: Europe lacks a clear positive vision of what it wants to defend. The answer must be "the things Vance rejects": truth, science, liberal democracy, rule of law, resisting dictators, climate action. It will have to do that without, & sometimes against, the US Govt.

To the right-wing pundits crowing over Vance's speech: if you are really "less worried" about a dictator-state that's invaded its neighbour, killed tens of thousands of people, reduced cities to rubble & engaged in mass rape and child abduction, than you are about "wokery", then you are truly lost.

Many thanks to Jen for writing up the BBC moves to Salford research!

Labour should be using the need to increase defence spending as a off-ramp for their promises on tax, not letting their defence policy (like everything else) be constrained by their promises on tax.

The amount of air time that Nigel Farage gets makes one think that he is a serious politician. But, it appears that many wouldn't give him the keys to the house. cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_ful...

Hmmmm! www.vatican.va/content/fran...

The most important thing today is hearing the phrase "Glad to be grey" and feeling I'm not alone.

Oh dear!
