I won’t QT because that’s unkind but someone just told me, if I have a problem with absurdly expensive books from academic publishers, then my intellect is clearly not worthy of them& I should just read Danielle Steel instead. Given what I do all day&what I have published so far this is quite funny.

Not to actually read them, you understand - I prefer a different sort of trashy novel - but to get the plastic book protectors.
The books go straight into the charity shop bag.
Says a lot about you to have reacted in such a positive way.
Kudos to you! Impressed.
Billionaires are accounting errors and I'm sure most millionaires exploited some folks
Ich bin Mal sexistisch und unterstelle, dass es ein Typ war.
It’s 60 km away but it has lots of books!
You have the right to name them (or not), regardless of whether some people approve.

the best selling author of 4 copies to some redbrick university library.
We also had the lecturers insist that the only textbook on a given subject was the one they wrote.
20 years ago, the Scots Law textbooks were £60-130 depending on the topic & publisher. For a standard paperback.

Sounds like those absurd people who assume that because someone is rich, they are gifted.
1) Expose students to a wealth of information. How to peruse it, analyze it
2) Lock it all behind sky high paywalls when you graduate
3) Wring hands about misinformation running rampant.

Most scientists were students once after all 😁
It’s a defensive reaction to the knowledge they’re outclassed.
(With apologies to Elizabeth Barrett Browning)
(Anyone that thought you were grinding an ax against Steel also thinks your bio indicates that you’re Dr Phil, the Oprah guy.)
I don’t know how this resolves.
I don’t know how public people who are introverts deal with this stuff!?
I’m sorry that there are some people around you, that feel entitled to give you their incorrect opinion. Since you can read and write - you’re smarter than entire villages.
You have a choice about whether you want to stay around these people who consider you stupid. I would not.

Sometimes some opinions need to be attached to the people who uttered them.
In some respects it is a civic duty, as it also means the rest of us can avoid them.
I derived the meaning from context. I assume QT is quoting and attributing - either with a screenshot or a direct "Quote Tweet" from the old Twitter days.
Anyway you prompted me to write "the platform changes, but the acronyms remain the same" and now I've gone down a Led Zeppelin rabbit hole to see what else I can repurpose for modern popular consumption.
[Tips hat.]
Nevertheless, given what academics earn from their publishing compared to the cover price, it appears without doubt that the publishers are gouging the price; especially when you factor in how little the publishers pay for the editing and peer review process.
With all industries now, maximising income and profit is more important than any other purpose; turning publishing into venture capital massaging.
Although, here I am, assuming I know what QT stands for.

You're spending a lot of time and attention on defending and justifying yourself because of someone who probably knows very little about anything or a troll.
You are worthy. You are enough.
(Mute.)
/Or so the NYT tells me.
1. Get the authors to pay for the research
2. Get the authors to do all the writing and figures.
3. Get other academics to review the work for free.
4. Charge the author page charges.
5. Charge everyone to read the completed paper.
6. Cash in.

Who better to administer academic journals than academics?
Who better to print, bind, distribute, market and sell academic works than academics, especially mechanical and engineering academics with a focus on vocational instruction?
