Tombs is a major historian of France, best known (in my circles, at least) for his revisionist account of the Paris Commune (arguing that many fewer Communards were killed than previous counts maintained). Didn't know (but am not surprised to learn) he's upset by anti-imperial fare.
Jesus Christ this is of the absolute gutter. You can say you can read too much in to the title of some tabloid-adjacent bullshit article and then the piece is somewhat balanced after that, but that headline gives the game away completely.
A little nugget of history to add to that, just to ram home the point of the British empire absolutely treating India with the upmost contempt, during the Sepoy Rebellion of the 1850s, one British army leader wanted to charge a city, castrate all the rebels, and rename that city Eunachabad
the thing thats crazy abt this is that the show actively white washes imperialism!! the main love interest is a white woman that disavows the birtish empire so white audiences can feel good!!
Imagine watching that movie and just not being super fucking pumped the whole time and instead sitting there like "you know, the British weren't THAT bad."
This, there are some legit issues with how this movie fits into what's going on in India right now, and none of them are "it was too mean to the fucking colonizers".

Damn guess [list of all former colonies] are just facile and shouldn't exist as countries.
