Ceres was the Roman goddess of corn and harvests.

The word "corn" has a different meaning in the USA, which grows maize. US Americans imposing their assumptions, as if they were universal, is one form of USA arrogance. This is why so much of the world hates the USA. Please just fucking stop.

When US Americans assume that their usage is universal, that's arrogant and inspires hatred of the USA.
f you asked me where I get water, I'd answer "from a well, actually".

That said I've seen US Americans piss off others, on social media, by saying "we" and assuming that everyone in the "room" is from USA, or otherwise talking in USA-centric terms. Wanna piss off a Canadian? That's one way...

What "corn" means isn't so important. Whether those of us in the USA practice arrogance or humility, for example about whether our usage of "corn" is the One True Meaning, THAT is important.
You aren't supposed to be using Americanisms! 🤣🤣
Makes no difference though - Encyclopaedia Britannica is the British Encyclopaedia, hence the correct spelling.
British Encyclopaedia, English spellings, no Americanisms.
Encyclopedia Americana is written in American English.
