I can eat gluten, just makes me feel crappy. So not really, but the only reason bread would be a necessity is if everything else was impossible or hard to get.

I've always thought, if an apocalyptic event happened, I'm just SOL, it is what it is.

though the thing that makes me feel confident about that is actually getting into 3D printing. I do not believe I had ever considered what a stepper motor does before buying a 3D printer, and now I've had to build some pretty complex mechanical assemblies (just not at waterwheel scale)

The catch, of course, is that to grind flour you need a stone with a hollow in the middle and a spout, and another stone on top that fits neatly, and a peg for turning and some sort of axle for which you’d need a primitive lathe…

I don’t mean to discourage you from making bread. I love bread.
I did once grind flour from grain in a stone mill by hand, at a museum. The novelty wears off long before there’s even a tablespoon of flour. 😼😸😹
