According to a Nintendo UK Support Rep, Switch 2 Editions of physical games like Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Metroid Prime 4 contain a download code for the upgrade pack along with a Switch 1 version cart of the game

Like if the cartridge was specially designed for Switch 2 they wouldn't even mention the predecessor console
or if you lose your account, you have to pay again for the game you already have in physical form.
And even if you "lose" your account you still have the ability to redownload previously purchased games/dlc.
Not to have Switch 1 game with a code.
And no, if you "lose" your account, you can't download your game link to it.
And any normal means by which a person would "lose" access to their account will not lock them out of their past purchases.
For anyone who didn't think it was going to be that way, there's also precedent. Note the difference in phrasing from a cartridge that has DLC. "You do not need to purchase or download" vs. "also available separately."
This box says it includes the "Switch Game" and upgrade pack but that the upgrade could be obtained separately - which is coverage for secondhand sales after the code's been used.
There are two options for playing Breath of the Wild Switch 2 Edition:
Option 1: Buy Switch 1 physical cart or digital game ($60) which many of us already have, then buy the upgrade pack for Switch 2 (?$20?)
Either way you're paying the same amount, it seems.
So... if you already have the game, just buy the upgrade pack.
If you already have BotW, it costs you the price of the upgrade pack.
If you've never played BotW, it costs you the game + the upgrade pack.
This box is only the second option, but if you already have the game, you don't need to buy the game again. So just don't. Just buy the upgrade pack.
Plus, for collectors like myself, I'm sure there will be a physical release someday that includes the upgrade pack on the cart.
We already got Mario Kart 8 Deluxe + DLC on cart, and Pokemon S/V + DLC on cart, Arms, etc. so I would guess this will come all on cart someday.
Honestly there's enough legitimate things to complain about in regards to the Switch 2 already, this is not one of them, and just adds more noise on top of actual shit Nintendo needs to fix.

Its really not too different from how buying a ps4 game that was remastered for ps5 will give you both versions.
Unless they demonstrated a digital version and not disclosed that.
This was as clear as they could possibly make it but people are so "online angry" that everything is being blown out of proportion.
Didn't want to buy Prime 4 twice.
Doesn't help future purchases through if you can't purchase new stuff after codes expire/unable to purchase the upgrade packs.
Now that you said that I got a wii to setup again to play some games I had purchased before. lol
The game is MSRP $60 and the dlc is $20 which is why the combined MSRP is $80.
But you can just buy a copy of the game anywhere including used if you want & then buy the dlc for $20.
Why is this a problem?
Sony/MS do but Nintendo doesn't.
If you want it then buy it separately because it will be cheaper or buy it w/vouchers because it will be much cheaper.
Sorry but I don't know what else to say about that...
They won’t do it because they don’t want to anymore. Let me remind you of better times when Nintendo did Nintendo Selects
If they're implemented like patches I'm guessing you'll download anything the Switch 2 version can't reuse from the Switch 1 game.
If they wanted to reduce waste, they simply should not have bothered with fake physical Switch 2 Editions
Does anyone read anything anymore? 😫
ON THE CART: Switch 1 game.
DOWNLOAD: Upgrade pack.
Please, please read.
Kirby is 20 because it includes dlc
But unlike MS they can't just stop supporting physical altogether because it's still such a huge part of their sales (& Jp is still mostly physical).
So they're basically giving us little pushes in the digital direction hoping we take the hint...
FUCK
You will *have* to use a modded system or emulator. It's ridiculous.
You just can't buy new stuff but they have never stopped you from downloading the stuff you already own.
Let's just say I don't trust Nintendo to pull the plug entirely
If you trust they'll keep legacy servers available, fine, I don't believe that will happen forever
I know this word gets thrown around a lot but that would definitely be anti-consumer & just plain foolish considering the small cost to maintain.
I truly believe that they all recognize that the rights to redownload previously purchased content has to be upheld especially considering how fast they're racing towards an all (or mostly) digital future.
Literally on ALL FOUR e-shops they closed, they literally state, we WILL shutdown RE-DOWNLOADS at some point in the future (if they've not already done so)
They leave the right to do so, they don't owe anyone anything
This isn't a perpetual license agreement😉
there’s a different answer
This is... actually a common thing, but instead people seem to want to rage.. Ignoring this is the exact kinda thing Sony and MS have done with their stuff, and no one seems to have a problem with with their precious steam deck.
