And acts like a drug! Ever notice how sometimes you just have to have something sweet? I'm a sugar addict, my daughter is always complaining about the fact that I have to have sugar in my coffee and my tea. Sugar addict.
I came across a small container I put some table salt in (to avoid having to tromp all the way to the kitchen if I need a little salt for my meal). it definitely looked sus out of context.
I put some sugar in my coffee and wondered what my hunter gatherer ancestors would make of it. And how the 110lbs of sugar/yr a North American consumes is probably not good for what is really still a hunter gatherer body.
Oh wellβ¦
This reminded me of the lyrics of that old skool song by Randy Newman,
ββ¦Want some whiskey in your water? Sugar in your tea?
What's all these crazy questions they're askin' me?
This is the craziest party that could ever be Don't turn on the lights 'cause I don't wanna see
Mama told me not to comeβ¦β
Nicknamed "white poison" for extremely valid reasons. Sugar is added to most processed foods, so you get your 'fix' without even registering. Please read the labels & shop around the perimeter of the grocery stores.
Doesn't just look like...IS. worse than nicotine, crack, heroin...speaking from the pov of an actual diabetic whose sugar addiction is killing them; they know it, yet are powerless in the face of that addiction...if you can find a way to prefer the taste of honey in your tea, it could benefit youβοΈπ₯³
My granny was going on holiday and nearly packed some plastic bags in her luggage with Marvel dried milk and Sanatogen vitamin powder until my dad told her what they looked like.
Took ten minutes at least for her to stop giggling.
I was taught that Columbus was searching for a better route to India for spices. (cinnamon? really?) What they never explained was that sugar was considered a spice and was first refined in India. Other spices were sought after, but sugar played a big role in colonization as sugar spread worldwide
I used to take 2 teaspoons in my tea. Giving it up was a HUGE challenge, and I found a new respect for smokers trying to give up. I finally did, and lost 4 inches off my waist
I bake some Christmas cookies the other day. Then I had to run a quick errand. I realized all of the flower on my shirt made it look like I was a serious Coke addict.
i mean, eating sugar is essential to living. which im pretty sure cocaine isnβt. but i also donβt know the context of this study, i could be acting like a snarky bitch for no reason
I believe we were discussing added sugars, which are not essential for living and cause a ton of health issues. But if that needed clarification, I was not referring to naturally occurring sugars, for my part in the discussion.
I can link some of the studies, if you are interested.
I know iodized salt is important, but a diet containing too much sodium is very unhealthy. I'm not sure how germane this is to the discussion. Sorry if it is not.
That's what sugar, carbs and yeast products are. Makes your body crave blood sugar instead of ketones. Have to ingest some every two hours to avoid the sugar hunger pangs and dips in energy. https://youtu.be/3d7KkyXnyB4 fridge analogy
That's what everyone says, maple syrup or honey is better. So if your trying to lower A1C, like me, no sugar, no white bread, no chocolate for 60 to 90 days
Absolutely a drug! Addictive af and cheaper too. Prolly why that song is βPour some sugar on meβ and not βPour some cocaine on meβ. Cocaineβs way too expensive for all that.
LOL, a lot, I know. And it is quite delicious. Beats the hell out of the fake HFCS crap. I may be from California, but my wife is from Maine and my cousin lives in Vermont.
it does...BUT the real tea is I have a bop I want you to recreate and I don't know how to step into the songwriting industry so here I am on bluesky! #hearmeout #giveayoungblackgirlachance! @lizzobeeating.bsky.social
Had you been able to give a Medieval serf in 1015 BCE a third of a teaspoon of sugar, heβd have freaked out like the speed freaks I knew at college in 1975.
person off the street that's dressed awkwardly walks into McDonald's and says yes I'll take a cup of coffee they asked me to like cream and sugar they said yes 6 please
Sugar is a drug and corporate America abuses it to great advantage and profit. Nearly everything has added sugar. It takes effort to avoid it. Our food is crap.
My mom moved states away when I was 19. B4 she left, she portioned out Tide powder to snack baggies (long before pods were a thing). She called, frantic, telling me to recombine the Tide bc she realized ppl at laundromat might think it was drugs.
sugar is a drug, it affects the brain like cocaine. and your liver processes it like alcohol. it is truly bad for us! unfortunately, it tastes very good.
In fact, the majority of the world is addicted to sugar. Don't believe it? Try quitting it. I mean it is possible, I have done it (mostly). I eat a meat-based diet, the only sugar that I ingest is lactose from heavy cream in my coffee (which is very little total sugar).
It is. LOL Dang it! I have it every day in my coffee. Caffeine, processed sugar, and who knows what in the heck goes in that powdered creamer!! We don't want to know :P

A lot is not good.
And it doesn't matter what the stuff looks like -- remember those two things and you'll be okay.

But itβs the only drug where it seems acceptable to gleefully admit addiction. As though itβs funny.
I feel equally sad for anyone admitting to any addiction.
Iβm so sorry. I hope you get help before it kills you.
It's usually the first drug Americans get addicted to and one of the hardest drugs to kick.
