Art is our interpretation of the times. Every phase of time we exist in is governed by politics. Black Artists' tend to weld a Superpower like no one else. It's the Voice of Justice. There's infinite ways of its presentation.
Living out my aspirations as a new millennium version of a 60s to 70s psychedelic soul brotha is about the closest I'll get to that. Phat afro included.
The 7892 Brigade did what they needed to do on 11-5-24.
Not enough white and white passing people did the right thing that day.
The absolute fucking nerve of them to expect a self-immolative response to their failure to meet the moment is truly mind boggling!
People need to stop making demands on artists. If you want to make a statement about your views, go for it. But nobody gets to demand that you do anything you aren’t okay with.
That's why I'm in the comment sections defending y'all whenever I get a chance. There were people saying Kendrick Lamar should have burned the flag during his performance.
It's always been dire for Black and Indigenous folks in particular. If folks had it together on 11/5 maybe things wouldn't be this awful. The illusion of white supremacy was too strong for people and this is the result.
lol Black people have literally lived that poem our entire lives. Without the civil rights movement? Other minority groups wouldn't have been able to be taken seriously. Because anti-racism in america has always also been anti-fascism. White people just don't know it yet. They will though.
Folks should research before assuming she or another public figure isn't doing anything or has done nothing. And, they don't have to share their work here or anywhere else. Black leaders know the revolution will not be televised.
I just hope that same energy is kept when people cant afford to buy these Black artists music because of those politics. We can all not help each other.
Or Hillary Clinton for that matter. They let her go and write her books and play with her grandbabies. But anyone with skin darker than khaki gotta lead the movement? 😂
Thissss because we’re always at the front of all social and political movements but not this time. We did our job! We keep telling everyone we’re on a Black Collective rest and they are not listening. 🙄
The sad reality is that if fascism progresses the first ones who will be beaten and killed are the black and brown politicians, artists, athletes and other celebrities. If you don’t stop this you will be the ones sacrificed to keep everyone else in line
As much as I would love white people to fix this problem they made. They can just hide and pretend they love MAGA the whole time whereas even the biggest black and brown MAGA supporters will be othered and told they are not good enough to be in that group.
People want to project so much of their own unrealized ambitions on the famous. I guess I get it, but we must realize there is an important difference between admiring witnessed sacrifice and expecting sacrifice. I admire you, Lizzo, for just being you and sharing your gift. That’s enough.
Patiently waiting for the public rise to pop-off. Are Americans afraid of the warning from the President of The Heritage Foundation? In his words, "there will be no resistance or putting up a fight." He said there will great consequences to pay if the leftist liberals resist.
We can't escape them. Look at old black Twitter. We made jokes about "cancelling", look where that went. We talked about wokeness, look at that. They took ebonics, broke it, and made it "Gen Z slang". Short of in person groups, there's no online gatekeeping.
Yeah y’all want Lizzo to speak out while your “progressive” hero Chappel Roan makes goo goo eyes at bigot asshole Jason Aldean. You wonder why black folks are sick of your shit.
A free society exists not simply because there are limits on the power of the government. The state may have a monopoly on the legitimate use of violence. But it does not have a monopoly on power. It’s free because there are multiple nodes of power:cultural, economic, social, in the national space.
I think you are deemed a powerful cultural icon in a time that people are feeling powerless.
You have stood up and helped turn people out to vote.
And you’re fearless.
I think that is why people look to you to continue to stand.
To be an artist of any kind is to be an activist. You cannot separate politics and art. We don’t need artists to do more, we need to catch up to artists

Period.
Not enough white and white passing people did the right thing that day.
The absolute fucking nerve of them to expect a self-immolative response to their failure to meet the moment is truly mind boggling!
For f*cking what?!
And you know exactly who was saying it 😬
Those who didn't can go suck an egg.
First they came for the immigrants, but I did not speak out because I was not an immigrant.
Get you community together, then come see us.

We have no idea what folks do in their private life, and it really isn't anyone's business.
And the fact that think our leaders are entertainers ..... lmao
The sad reality is that if fascism progresses the first ones who will be beaten and killed are the black and brown politicians, artists, athletes and other celebrities. If you don’t stop this you will be the ones sacrificed to keep everyone else in line
No group of artists has sacrificed for the benefit of everyone, like Black artists.
You have stood up and helped turn people out to vote.
And you’re fearless.
I think that is why people look to you to continue to stand.
