Saw this Herring Gull with attached plastic cup on a wet 31 Dec 24. Two days later, saw that it could use its Uropygial gland at least and today, after seven weeks, cup still attached and its obviously able to feed but mandibles growing larger #midlothianbirds - ThreadSky

What a shame 🙁. A wonder whether a ringer could have a go at hand catching it so that the cup could be removed? Are any of the LRG active on here? (Obviously it’s unlikely to be an easy task)

It is a shame. I was surprised to see it today as I thought it may have expired by now or the cup would be dislodged. It was hanging around the shopping centre at Straiton.

Several days last March before this one at Port Seton Coop was captured and slushy type lid removed, it evaded the net in the pic, nowhere near catching on that occasion...

There was one similar at Strathclyde Park I think before Christmas, could be the same, just cannot remember the age of the bird. @andyrussornitho.bsky.social tried to catch it and may have some photos

The Strathclyde bird was a 1st winter. We had it again recently so it's somehow still feeding.
