Most of the countries with serious healthcare pay about 20% in tax. For that we get healthcare, infrastructure, police, armed forces.... The US is so business-focused which is why the US is failing. I don't pay a thing for my diabetes medication. Magas don't like that.
Taxes depend on the state because there's state and federal tax.
Again, Americans don't like taxes.
Especially conservatives when it means paying for other peoples health.
Are you american? It's highly unliekly any 20 percent increase on any tax you want to dicuss would come anywhere near what anyone pays for healthcare. Put them all together, and it's still far less.
And insurance is paying for other people's helathcare, also.
There is many criteria that has to be met before you are considered a developed country. Having a democracy is one. Human rights is others. That the ruling elite exploit their own people for personal gain is another. Corruption. The list is long and fits so I consider them one, no offense to you.
Beware! The cruel and corrupt Republicans in Congress are attempting to decimate and destroy Medicaid, the ACA, social programs and the economic safety net in order to give massive tax cuts to the selfish wealthy and greedy corporations. Shameful and vile! They must be stopped!
Unfortunately we live in a country that believes the money is in the medicine not the cure. Archaic thinking because people are more productive when healthy 🤨
The problems today have a lot to do with For Profit medicine. Doctors trying to upsell treatments, sell drugs that aren't necessary, ads on TV make people suspicious of medical care, they turn to internet for answers and find misinformation, that leads to conspiracy theories, that lead to fascism.
Yes and that last one the US that didn't make it work makes up over 60% of the medical innovations that happens in the world, it's as if the only reason those 32 countries can make it work is because that last one covers the R&D for the rest,
No worries, Trump/Musk is doing all they can to destroy the U.S. ability to do research and innovation. So then the U.S. won’t have universal healthcare AND won’t be at the forefront of new medical innovations. Woohoo! /s
Medicare is universal healthcare and it’s working really well for our seniors. They can supplement with private insurance if they desire.
Our “cutting edge research scientists ” were just fired by the Doge team this week.
Great, just that it has nothing to do with how you accept to be taken to the cleaners. Research is mainly funded by governments, not the pharmaceutical industry. It's fine; we don't care about your ignorance. We just see you don't have universal healthcare and idiots who defend it with lies.
Trials are funded by governments. Pharmaceutical companies manufacture, lobby, advertise, and sell for as much as they can. In other developed countries, advertising is forbidden, and prices are controlled. It is your 'world' that is in error; nothing would change if you had universal healthcare.
I live in one of those 32 countries. I can assure you that government pays a fair price to those pharmaceutical businesses for their products, which in turn presumably has already factored in the cost of research in its pricing. I am skeptical of notion that 33rd is subsidising for the rest of 32.
Come to think of it, why am i even so upset about the fall of our democracy, the dismantling of the government, the weakening of our country, and all else the disgraceful Muskrump co-presidents have done this past month? The USA, that one out of 33 mentioned, was just a different fucked up before. 🤬
Lives and money saved: recent study by Yale epidemiologists found that Medicare for All would save around 68,000 lives a year while reducing U.S. health care spending by around 13%, or $450 billion a year. Capitalism kills and is stupid!
Where have you been it ain't working. It's eating their govt budgets alive... You Notice how nobody ever names the countries with the figures showing this and what's covered and whats co pays and blah blah blah. It's all Nonsense. There is No cheap health care...
You don’t have to figure it out for yourself. Just ask. The problem is to make people see the advantage of paying significantly higher taxes so that those who don’t work and therefore don’t contribute much gets the same benefits as everyone else.
Sad that the US has been denying its citizens it since after the Civil War. Why you ask? Because black people will get it. Look it up. Good thing there’s no structural racism in the US😒
IF only the Rich were more like Warren Buffett when it comes to wanting to give as much in taxes as possible to help get USA out of Debt and actually make America Greater. The Ignorant Uneducated Republican Politicians want to Cut Taxes for the Rich instead to make more Debt!
The VA is single payer and it seems to work. We have to do something. Our lifespans have been reduced partly because we don't provide universal healthcare. I think it is a right that Americans all deserve.
My daughter’s birth was paid for, my two surgeries were paid for, my mother’s age related health care was paid for, my daughter’s dental visits until 13 are paid for. What’s not paid for are EMS (ambulance) and elective services.
I’m pretty sure that insulin is paid for now, it wasn’t always. Drug markups are minimal in Canada comparatively. I have a plan through work too, so it’s rare that I actually pay more than what I carry in my pocket (lint and buttons)
Hold onto your hat as this will be foreign to most who don’t live above the 49th. I pay 38% income tax, 25.8% of that goes to health care. So on a 100k 38000*.258=$9840 or $204.25/week which is relative to what you make, and it’s a collective pool, which works like an insurance pool. Peace of mind.
The U.S. spends $1.5+ trillion per year on its military-industrial complex, more than all other major programs, except Social Security and Medicare. Redirecting even a fraction of this, could significantly fund a free healthcare system, for all Americans. Get campaigning for it folks.
We can get close to it if we have a team of non-politicals brainstorming. Obamacare was revolutionary. He was on a righteous mission, inspired my Mitt Romney when the Gov of Mass.
I have heard horror stories from people from the UK and Canada.
As a retired RN, I even gave one Canadian mom my cell # so I could advocate for her since her son was in ER for nearly none hours after not being able to pee for 24 hrs perviously.
Another woman in the UK tried to explained to me why her child couldn't get antibiotics for an infected ear until she saw a specialist. She didn't have the money. WTF? So, my opinion is that it is absolutely complex issue. But can be conquered if we believe everyone has the right to healthcare.
Liberals didn’t push it when they had control of both houses of Congress and the presidency. The last time they pushed for anything like it, they allowed it to be neutered to preserve private health insurance profits.
The problem is money in politics is corrupting the nation, no matter the party.
The boy telling Trump 'You're not the real president. You need to go away' made my day. Maybe the little guy is misbehaved and a villain but that day he was spot on 😅
Aww, rage away hun, you are so completely not anyone's big problem.
Get your knickers out of a Twist and realize, no political party is a friend of the people.
Lol, so if no political party is your friend, then you come here to convince people in the left to stay home and dont vote and let trump win again and again while you do nothing.
Universal Healthcare is ran as a nonprofit. Its health over profit. So it’s unlikely this will ever happen in the US where the people who could make this happen don’t believe in health over profit.
Beware! The cruel and corrupt Republicans in Congress are attempting to decimate and destroy Medicaid, the ACA, social programs and the economic safety net in order to give massive tax cuts to the selfish wealthy and greedy corporations. Shameful and vile! They must be stopped!
Universal healthcare only works in countries where neighbours don't fear, loathe and hate their neighbours. The idea of somebody less deserving gets the same service for less is enough for some to load their weapons.
I live in Finland. My close relative has a chronic lung disease, which requires some super expensive medication, lengthy hospital periods, and finally lung trasplants. All this will cost us the maximum of 1500 dollars per calendar year - all this without any insurance.
And of course mandated PTO! My company gave us unlimited PTO and my supervisor says we have to take less time because of our workload. Fuck that. If they aren’t giving us help then that’s their problem.
This bitch would jump out of the window if they told her to.
trump wouldn't be where he is if almost half the country were not ignorant, racist and backward, and by ignorant, I mean voting against their own best interests because tdump vibed with them with his racism and dog whistles i.e. "you [my ignoramuses] are Special", but not those "others"
I once got stung by a small stingray at a beach on the Sea of Cortez in Baja, Mexico. My foot swelled up badly within 12 hours. A clinic in La Paz gave me an exam and a course of antibiotic for 1 dollar. I didn't understand what the doctor was telling me, so she drew a picture of a ray on a napkin.
As an American I can say that (except for the rich kids, who go to private schools) all kids are getting an equally bad education, which the current people in charge are trying to make even worse.
There's some truth there. The closest I've ever been to a war zone is driving through some American cities. The closest I've been to a third-world country is driving through rural Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi.
I believe you. The only time I felt unsafe on a street, was when I left 🇦🇺 to travel around 🇺🇸 . I still recall staff at the hotels telling us not to walk down there, or go that way, ‘for your own safety’. That was scary enough, but then we saw a pickup with a rifle hanging in the back & nearly died.🙀
Republicans, in particular, have been accepting enormous ’donations’ (aka bribes) from the NRA for decades, which lead to the huge amount of guns on the streets, and as you say, it’s now normalised for so many.
They tried it here too, but our politicians kicked them out. 😅

You'd have to increase tax rates on everyone to make it work.
The "U.S is failing"
How is the U.S failing?
Overall, net gain.
20% increase just for the state of Oregon when propositioned.
For the VAST majority of americans, 20 percent more in taxes is far less than they pay for healthcare.
Again, Americans don't like taxes.
Especially conservatives when it means paying for other peoples health.
And insurance is paying for other people's helathcare, also.
Trumps biggest optic win was his tax cuts.
Being a developed country is not about quality of life, it's where you are in the exploitee/exploited scale
It is an offense to all of us in the Global South to refer the biggest reason we ARE underdeveloped as underdeveloped
Social media is helping them understand how dystopian privatized health insurance is based on stories from the US.
or those 32 actually care about their citizens.
Our “cutting edge research scientists ” were just fired by the Doge team this week.
the research isn't funded by your private insurance, that goes to a private insurance company
there is nothing about our barbaric insurance scheme that makes it uniquely able to produce medical science
there's nothing about medical bankruptcy that makes advances in pharmaceuticals possible
you can't explain how we subsidize it, you just assume we do (we dont).
Praise.
If you have diabetes and similar life-long conditions, you get ALL prescriptions for free for life
We have a £114.50 yearly prescription charge you can pay to limit costs
Here in UK we have £12750 untaxed, 12750- £37700 is 20%, and 40% to £125,140. Anything above that is 45%
Unless you are very rich or a corporation, where you can just avoid it altogether by saying you aren't "based here" despite earning it here
such as the world has never seem before.
I have heard horror stories from people from the UK and Canada.
The problem is money in politics is corrupting the nation, no matter the party.
stfu y'all never been or lived in the global south and still feel entitled to say that. it's pathetic.....
DO NOT let Democrats bullshit you
But I am starting to think people like you might be.
Lolol.
And im ABSOLUTELY your biggest problem guaranteed. As you are mine. Glad were all on the same page.
Get your knickers out of a Twist and realize, no political party is a friend of the people.
That's a trump fan. As i said my enemy.
It !

This bitch would jump out of the window if they told her to.
Sorry but calling the reason we are underdeveloped, underdeveloped is ignore the constant effort and money spent to keep us like this....
The US having no quality of life is on their greed, they have every resource to fox it. Unlike us
https://theconversation.com/us-is-becoming-a-developing-country-on-global-rankings-that-measure-democracy-inequality-190486
Also poverty rates is not the only indicator of development... accumulation of wealth, worldwide influence and power etc
US is a first world country that prefers to spend money to expoilt other countries than provide for their+
They tried it here too, but our politicians kicked them out. 😅
