Overjoyed at this occurrence but also in despair over the suffering of Syria’s people. Why does the world have to be this way? We may be living in an era of drastic Middle East realignment. It has tentacles. This could be a fortunate thing.

I will quibble about China. There's not much covert about the type of help it is giving Russia. It is not an ally though. It wants Russia to exhaust itself as it too has historical claims to settle starting with Outer Manchuria.
I agree… They also want to establish trade routes to Europe that either go through Russia or through countries that have strong relationships with Russia. A weaken Russia is a huge win for China.

That was an excellent summary of the current geopolitical big picture. This sure feels like a crossroads with Georgians presently resisting brutal regime repression. It’s time for the global cancer that is putin’s russia to collapse like it’s pathetic currency.
