Then there was a Spike Chunsoft sale last month, and because I already had Somnium Files, I could complete the developer bundle for quite cheap. So I got quite a few visual novels now to check out. 👍

Can definitely echo the sentiment of it being good. Had an amazing time playing it. There's a speak with animals trait that you can choose at the start and let me tell ya it's just so charming to play through with it.

The Zero Escape games are great. I played 999 on the DS, and it didn’t age great mechanically (and I’m not sure how one part would even work on other hardware) but Virtue’s Last Reward is my absolute favorite, and Zero Time Dilemma is darn good too.

The history of point and clicks is super fascinating to me, I love looking at the early text parser ones where no one really had a firm grasp on how they should work and tried to turn them into action games with game overs and puzzles you could soft lock yourself with.

A lot of those games were just unreasonably difficult. The Gabriel Knight games were absolutely horseshit but also some of my favorite games back in the day.
