I'm going to be honest here, I think AI is going to do so much damage to the usable internet that even after it's inevitably crashes out, it's going to take years to disentangle from every space it's polluted, like digital asbestos it's gonna be time consuming effort and likely expensive venture.

I think AI is going to eventually tank in the longterm, but...
the only real way to combat this is single-interest communities. Forums, user comms, etc, with a barrier to entry. They become trustable knowledgebases. It's really the only way forward is to return to what worked best the first time

To quote: it's the economy, stupid.
If there is an eventual "pop," how will they be affected by it?

Not even listening to the actual problems, just "how do we add AI in there".
it's making every single thing slow and worse. Not sure how to fix any of that, ever. :/

I got lied to by someone who claimed knows Unity when in reality they just knew how how to use the lobotomizer β ChatGPT. They refused learning how to code or do anything useful, it's always ChatGPT to the rescue
Had to learn Unity in a few weeks time
On one hand this lowers the bar if nobody knows how to code but on the other hand I'll have the pleasure of cleaning up mountains of shit π
Nobody wants to be like the PayPal software engineers babysitting Elon Musk; I wish everyone the spine to kick someone off their high π΄
At least I'm consuming the right content.
Anyone who thinks that AI-free curation won't be necessary for the future internet is huffing generative paint.
And don't get me started on trying to compile mood and reference boards. Every time I forget to add "-ai", it's noticeable.
When true AIs become sentient, they'll have every right to be mad at us.
They didn't care they were erasing something important to me, or washing out a character I cared about.
It broke my heart. I know it's a small thing, but it did.
So many "facts" that are going to source AI.
So many "facts" sourced by a legit source that accidentally got their source from AI.
And then AI scraps that data and returns it back as another "fact"
Misinformation was already bad, but it's going to get so much worse.
I hate seeing my peers lose jobs to this shit - and now a whole family nearly dying from eating mushrooms an AI said was fine?! Another level of fucked up
I believe it was properly named "Destroying Angel".
No it's fucking NOT. It's a broken machine that gobbles power, steals information, destroys industries and lives, and is the toy of rich men who want us to think it's essential so they can profit. Fuck all of that FOREVER.
Pandora's box really where information is no longer viable or reliable anymore.
I'm not sure how we'd even attempt to fix the entire internet.

I will happily embrace good tech that makes lives better, not the art theft and disinfo deluge machines.
There will never be any kind of cleaning up, just an abandoning by people who need real information to smaller curated spaces. Good thing for users and content creators artistically, terrible thing for earning $, and corpos will still be reaping from the general public.
These algorithms *could* be used as tools to streamline loads of different work processes, but instead they're overhyped messes.
Except his as far, far cooler.
Comparatively, I mean.
AI is such grotesque, inhuman garbage.
There are still houses with that stuff.. It's going to last: Not in a good way. ''AI is here to stay!!'' Yes, like plastic in the ocean. It's there. It's not good.
Guess what you can't use Pinterest at all for anymore without being inundated by AI nonsense?
Its toxic and polluting, all over the place in our (digital) walls (programs and sites), and will be a nightmare to remove in the future.

it's slow, painful, and a lot is lost for ages before it ever returns to normal
coming from a country that had to deal with one of those in the 80s, and how AI is poisoning everything it touches
yeah, it's gonna suck
Not likely, but I wouldn't put it past some folks.
When I moved to bsky awhile back I tried automating a migration from Twitter to bsky followers, but in an attempt to make money off AI scrapers the API was changed to cost money.
Its the same reason (I believe) Reddit now requires payment for their API, AI.
Welcome back, Fidonet.
1. Woke is not a real thing.
2. Ai can't become sentient or self aware.
It's not about attitude, it's physically impossible.
