Is it an unpopular opinion to say I like when people clap at the end of a movie like it feels so unceremonious to be open mouth crying and then just get up and leave

We gave a standing ovation as the credits rolled for Galaxy Quest: the best part about it was that there were very few us in the auditorium, so there was no mass effect - we all just did it.
Watched it with, like, 6 people total in my small town theatre. At the end I said to my partner "Oh man, I have the urge to applaud". But only the old cinema operator who ambles in during the credits to sweep up popcorn would ever have known.
This! I feel like I'm taking crazy pills with everyone saying they clap at movies. Clapping is to show appreciation to the cast and crew of a live event.
If you really feel like the guy programming the movie to start on time deserves applause you do you but I'm gonna roll my eyes and leave quietly.
Even in a small town, you never know when someone who worked on a picture is going to "sneak in" to see it with a paying audience. For them, that end credit applause can be better than Oscar night.
We did too, truly a beautiful film. We have friends in the industry, so we always stay to watch the final credits. I wish Netflix would allow this to happen instead of suggesting the next movie.
The whole point of going to a film is to experience it with other people! The group communication -clapping, cheering, laughing, heckling -is half the fun!
I'm 64 and I find that people don't do this as much as they used to. The last time I remember this happening was for the Matrix. I guess today's audiences are very hard to please what with all the political and social mine fields movie makers have to navigate
I was the only person left in the theatre watching the credits when a family stood next to me and said, excuse me you're in our seats. I laughed and left.
I will always clap at the end of a good movie. I will never forget seeing all 3 Lord of the Rings films on opening day and everyone clapped together, standing ovation. And at the end of ROTK, we all hugged and cried together. That magic deserves to live on. ❤️
