having grown up in the 70s and 80s, it blows my mind that people are now calling the idea that men are just inherently better at things like darts, chess, and fencing “feminism.”

A thousand times this. And a lot of women my age too. Aside from the anger at seeing the persecution of a harmless minority, this is also what makes me livid. My daughter is going to have less opportunity than I did.
ikr?? it (hopefully) isn't what anyone of sound mind is calling feminism, this is from some serious brainrot lol, but it's just rephrasing "women should know their place" 🙃
Comical. Never heard that one. However, that sort of word play, equivocation on terms, conflation of concepts is a hallmark of conservative discourse. Where sincere people seek to discuss substance, conservatives seek to create confusion and conflict with misleading rhetoric and word play.
Same sort of thing they did in their jape about anti-racists being "racists" (because they discuss the categories coined by racists), or religious freedom is oppression if part of one's religion is ruling the world, or the tyranny of democracy and law, and so on.
That's a good one. Thanks. Wasn't familiar with that one, had to look it up: Contronym: a word having two meanings that contradict one another (thus providing ample opportunity for particularly rhetorically powerful equivocation on terms or at least the generation of ambiguity, confusion).
So "feminism" as supporting and promoting the rights of women as against male chauvinism, as they once called it, and "feminism" as a sexist ideology promoting female superiority to males (and others deemed insufficiently feminine)?
It's not even just TERFs. I see a lot of gender essentialism in people who are trying to be trans-inclusive - e.g. if you're cis AFAB and you prefer jeans and a T-shirt to skirts and blouses, maybe you're *really* a trans man?
We're all soaking in it, and we all have to unpack it constantly.
Odd. I really don't understand the supposed concerns in this area and it's hard for me to suppose it's not all just conservative political rhetoricians playing games, looking for issues and angles, trying to find convenient minority scapegoats to victimize. Gender essentialism?
The idea that all women have the same traits and all men have the same, opposite traits. It's a conservative idea, yes, but because we're all raised in societies with gender-essentialist assumptions -- even relatively progressive ones -- it's easy to fall back on those assumptions.
Sounds about right. As a liberal, I really can't see why I should be involved. Some women are rather masculine, some men feminine, some have biological issues, some identify with the opposite gender, some change their gender. Who cares? Where's the social impact that suggests I need to be involved?
If they are calling that or themselves "feminist", they are infiltrators, just like the conservative Republicans who infiltrate Democratic or liberal spaces and try to turn members against each other by pointing fingers of blame within the group and demanding that people do more or better.
First, anyone who can do an Ironman is good at an Ironman. Second, saying women aren’t universally interested is something is stupid as shit. And finally, why do you think men can “practise” things but women can’t?
Some women then. My point is I don’t want to play darts so why am I said to be lesser than a man who does want to play darts? Most things in life need practice (correct as noun in UK) and we can all improve, so again why say I am lesser. Why compare men and women anyway?
I think you misunderstood: I meant women can improve with practice. Everyone can. I am trying to say women should not be judged by men who think they are superior (who probably lack confidence). Re ironman,
no doubt some women are much stronger than some men. Hope this is now clear.
Yes! And the thing is, even if it were somehow true (which it's not), we're obstructing an entire demographic's civil rights over an occasional sports trophy. I would throw every trophy into a goddamn volcano to guarantee trans people autonomy and legal protection.
If those people aren't already MAGA, they are still dangerous because that mentality and those personality traits cause them to fall VERY high on the F-Scale and are likely "sleepers" who will turn on you and your friends. I would consider disassociating from them.
I think you're wrong about the idea that this would be abandonment since most of the types that peak the F scale will see nothing wrong with racism right now.
This started to happen already in the late 1980s, when Feminism = "Women have the right to be anything they want" became replaced by Feminism ="Women have the right to be women", claiming society was trying to take their motherhood-based identity away. This switch was pushed by religions.

Catch the fuck up or decide if you want to be relegated to acting like that embarrassing moron known as the White House Press Secretary AKA Moron
Lots of women have been socialized into subjugation
I’m proudly not one of them!
We talk a lot about the “big lie,” but an equally important tactic is the contronym.
We're all soaking in it, and we all have to unpack it constantly.
Are men inherently better at throwing things? When did I lose this mastery of hand eye coordination?
As a "man," I can assure you that we are all stupid to varying levels. My apologies.
no doubt some women are much stronger than some men. Hope this is now clear.
The issue is people saying women are naturally worse, or don’t want to play at all just because they are a woman. Did you really not get that?
