This is more than a "cap" on the National Institutes of Health. This is an attack on future research for cancer and heart disease. This is an attack on vaccine development. This is an attack on medical experts, scientists, students, and teachers. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

🚨BREAKING: Federal Court GRANTS sweeping nationwide injunction against Trump DEI executive orders finding that they violate First and Fifth Amendments to the Constitution. A huge victory for @democracyforward.org and its clients. A stinging loss for Trump. Visit www.democracydocket.com for details.

Instead of focusing on America’s national security, this man is treating America like a reality show. Firing QUALIFIED military leaders! Playing with our national security! This isn’t a game. crockett.house.gov/media/press-...

It has been a long and grueling week. Thank you to everyone who offered kind words of support. If you want to follow everything happening to democracy in court, while also supporting pro-democracy independent media, please sign up for Democracy Docket. www.democracydocket.com/me-subscribe...

People keep asking why they would parade around Liz Cheney and this is why. They thought "Oh the left will come crawling back no matter what, so we just need to run up the score in the neighborhoods that look like the ones lords like us live in." Completely undeserved sense of entitlement.

So the President has abruptly fired the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, Charles Q. Brown Jr., and is replacing him with a retired three star general, Dan Caine. This portends a future grave crisis as the President attempts to restructure the military into one personally loyal to him.

Rep Raskin has been great. Rep Ocasio-Cortez has been great. And Rep Frost and Rep Crockett. Senator Murphy. Maybe no one knew exactly what to do. But such people laid down a clear marker. Let’s respect these and other elected federal representatives who stood out these first few weeks.

Steve Bannon did a Sieg Heil at CPAC. I'm a 3rd generation Holocaust survivor. My grandparents met in a Concentration Camp. My grandfather's wife & young daughter were murdered. My grandmother's brothers were murdered. Her mother died in her arms from starvation. Is THIS what life in America is NOW?

They are telling us, out loud, exactly how the 2026/28 elections will not be free & fair. They will go after vote by mail (bsky.app/profile/mira...). They will go after computer voting. They will then say we can't count all the paper ballots because it's taking too long & there must be fraud. Etc.

an accurate description of donald trump's character is per se libel. an accurate description of his policies is a call for revolution. one of his great superpowers is that he generates self-censoring facts.

Max Wyman: The cultural sector “must make itself indispensable. And becoming indispensable means a lot more than putting up posters in bus shelters.”

after hearing from several of you last night, i think i have a general structure for this. it's subject to change based on feedback, but if you're a current, fired, or currently-being-litigated federal worker, i want to hear from you. here are the details.

Are you working on anti-criminalization organizing campaigns? Andrea is a great thought-partner and she is offering support, advice and a listening ear.

NEW: The Trump administration has locked Minnesota out of $200 million in federal food and climate grants awarded last summer. Projects breaking ground this year were depending on that money. minnesotareformer.com/2025/02/21/t...

It is mind-boggling to me that people say "but I had to comply with the fascists because otherwise there would be some cost—" NO FUCKING KIDDING. Did you think you'd never have to make a hard choice in Fascist America? That you wouldn't be asked to sacrifice someone and be rewarded for it?? JFC

A nice break from the troubles...

Remember when John Roberts gutted the Medicaid expansion because he said the *offer* of medicaid money was too coercive to the states bsky.app/profile/atru...

lemme know when we start burning cybertruck effigies

it's just dribs and drabs here and there. but a lot of stuff has hit the ag sector over the last few weeks mostly out of the media sight. ag labs with half their staffs fired, small but important markets selling commodities to USAID. various grants and contracts for woodland management.

We are witnessing the wholesale destruction of our public health infrastructure and monitoring systems. This administration is profoundly and deliberately anti-life.

How many calls do we need for you to treat your fucking GOP colleagues like the people that are trying to kill you and your constituents? You know they're coming for you, yeah? Really disappointing. Deny unanimous consent. OPPOSE. Are you with us or them? @schiff.senate.gov @padilla.senate.gov 92683

Trump pardoned the sentence of arguably the single biggest drug trafficker in American history on his second day in office!

The level of petty I aspire to be 🤣

what?? but we saved so much money on America by setting the country on fire and throwing it in the trash

one most perilous and long voyage ended, only begins a second; and a second ended, only begins a third, and so on, for ever and for aye

Update: The White House is already backing down on this. Keep calling your reps. Keep pressuring them. Along with your reps, the white house phone number is (202) 456-1111. Use 5calls.org to get all your reps in one place along with a guide. www.nysun.com/article/whit...

So. It has officially happened. I have been officially let go from my position at CDC. I wasn’t a probationary employee. I had stellar performance reviews every year. I’ll be ok. But please understand that many worked HARD to get into these positions and were doing great public health work.

Love me some Silver Surfer!

Another brick in the fascist wall: WSJ reports Linda Yaccarino (CEO, X) threatening IPG w/government (Musk) retribution unless they advertise on X platform. www.wsj.com/business/med...

Medicaid is not for sale. NASA is not for sale. The Post Office is not for sale. America is not for sale. We have an obligation to resist kings. We outnumber them. And they can be overwhelmed.

I was at a punk show in 83 where a skinhead jumped up on stage and gave a Nazi salute. The bass player hit him with his bass, knocking him into the crowd and 150 people collectively hauled his ass out of the venue and threw him in the mud. This was the right and only appropriate response.

I was at a Fugazi show sometime around '86 or so when Ian MacKaye saw something happen in the pit, threw down his guitar, stopped the show, jumped in to the crowd and personally dragged a skinhead out of the venue and tossed him into the snow.

One of the things people fail to grasp about the "Punk Bar" analogy is that for Punks (and metalheads, and rivetheads, and...) the Nazis that you have to throw out are neither hypothetical nor rare. The average person doesn't realize that the Nazis are an extant existential threat.

As Americans protest in the streets and Canadians see a similar struggle looming, let’s pause and consider what exactly we mean by “democracy.” thetyee.ca/Opinion/2025...

It's no coincidence that Musk's companies are soaring in value as the regulatory agencies that were investigating or suing them are being gutted. The DOGE agenda isn't about "efficiency" — it's about Musk freeing himself from any accountability so he can line his pockets.

DOGE has spent $40 million in one month

One of the biggest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world just lost $1.4 billion (with a B) to a hack. This is 5x as much as the previous largest exchange hack in history.

I agree with this assessment. If you want to do more than just call your federal electeds, move down the chain.

As scholars of separation of powers and republican government, we write that these attacks on our government are unprecedented...Trump’s actions are best summed up as “unrepublican,” violating the republican system of government that Madison envisioned. washingtonmonthly.com/2025/02/21/m...
