HEADLINE: CDC posts, then deletes, data on bird flu spread between cats and people. The data which appeared fleetingly online on Wednesday, confirmed transmission in two households.
It is evident the CDC is being muzzled SO letβs talk about what YOU can do to PROTECT yourself AND your pets. π§ͺ𧡠β¬οΈ

As we learned.
2 cases means there are plenty more.
Thank you for keeping up with this info, Iβve been trying to keep my vets in the loop to help treat pts and keep ourselves and our own cats at home safe!
I would like to get off this ride please and thank you
Just dropped! Haven't scrutinised to see what might've been the reason for them withholding it but this is one of the two initially withheld publications

It makes things more reliable and actionable. Often I see people claiming things making me feel I can't just take it at face value, have to verify and then... don't do anything.
1. Has H5N1 been found in any swine?
2. Is a vaccine currently in development?
Thank you!
Secondly, we currently have two different H5N1 vaccines stockpiled and there are others currently
We have strictly indoor cats, but 2 dogs that go potty outside. Been wiping their paws when they come in. Anything else we should be doing with canine family to avoid them tracking in crud to the cats? Or is that not as much of a concern vector wise?
They hate change and vaccines, without vaccines me and countless others would be far worse than we are it's why in my eyes I'll always choose science.

Talk to your vet. Anything labeled raw is dangerous for cats.
Hopefully they can recommend some other food.
I just can't follow the train of thought
could bird flu pass to us/the dogs/other cats I visit easily?
1. So GLAD I found you here and followed!
2. Thank you so much for this crucial information during this blasted nonsensical madness.
It makes me happy that I call you Dr. Chise when reading your posts. π¬π§Όππ§ͺ

Are the white-on-black images of text your words, or from a particular reference?
It's store-bought eggs if it matters D:
Daaaanng, their fave snackiiieeeee D;
but thanku for clearing that up! Wasn't sure if it was just meat or if unfertilized eggs counted/could spread it, so thanks again!
Do you know if my dog can catch it just by being in contact to their droppings when we go on walks?
As always, sound and level-headed guidance backed by science!
Our happy indoor cats
I wonder if it'll become a new trend and great info as always thanks for sharing and all the best!
I live in germany but we had cases of bird flu over the years too. Don't want my kitty to be sick :c

I was thinking things like outdoor aviaries, but people do take their birds for walks and such as well.
Mine has been undergoing cancer treatment so her immune system isn't the best. which also means that a vaccine would be a potentially bad idea.
Yeah apparently not

WTH
Did you know you can NOT pull up anything current from the WHO or the CDC PubMed on N1H5 bird flu????,,, CDC claims their site is down due to complying with trumps executive orders.....
WTH??????
No obvious signs of injury or blood, no distress calls. It was incredibly bizarre.
Is this something consistent with Bird Flu? Should I be concerned and what should I do?
I'm by no means a vet but the possibility is there. Probably going to get hand sanitizer at the store today and stay away from local cats

Actually, I'd rather not be muzzled.
You can leash me and train me, but I don't think I like muzzles.
Some clinics will glove up to touch a pet fed raw or even ban raw food from the clinic altogether.

It helps to have bigger voices get the word out!
Why are cats any different
Thank you again! I sincerely appreciate that you put these together for us. β€οΈπ§ͺ
He does meter reads.
Would Windex work for disinfection?
We've implemented:
- all basic Covid protocols used during the pandemic (vaccines, masks, etc)
- no balcony access for cats
- no outdoor shoes worn past the doorway
- MORE -->
- 70% alcohol in spray bottle to disinfect door/hall where we might have walked with outdoor shoes
- plus all the things you suggested above :)
I'll do my best to keep us and our furbabies safe!
But at this specific moment, in this specific time, I am *especially* grateful for it. Thank you, Chise!
