Instead of reforming the Dems, why not create a real progressive 3rd party for the left? Not the Greens—something fresh, bold, and untainted. Medicare for All, wealth tax, climate action now, anti-establishment—true progressive values. Who’s in?

Please tell me that you understand that the American system is a hybrid of capitalism and socialism (corporate socialism especially). And has been for decades/generations.
Please tell me you know that this is what we already are.
I'm all for something new, especially on a platform like that. And the time is ripe, with the very low approval ratings of the current iteration of the party. The people saying "don't split the opposition" apparently don't realize that the Democratic party isn't the opposition!
That said, I think co-opting the current party might be a quicker path to power, something analogous to what the Tea Party did to the GOP. But I'm open to persuasion.
What doesn’t Jill have that you want? I have no problem voting green, peace and freedom. Sony and haven’t supported duopoly except sanders during primaries and AOC before she turned into baby pelosi
A Social Democratic Party perhaps, working for the People and by the People, democratic rules and procedures, binding in-party referenda to reach decisions, no compromises......
So the right wing reads this and says "great !" This fulfills their goal of divide and conquer. Take a look at Canadian history. Trudeau was elected because the left decided to get together as one, rather than presenting two separate parties.
A 3rd party will make the returds stronger and the dems weaker what needs to happen is everyone with agendas need to set them aside and go all in on getting as many dems elected to stop this the returds are all elbow to elbow i do want a 3rd party when the time is right, at this moment it is not.
Or just make that the Democratic platform. But the first policy platform for every level of the Democratic Party, all the way down to city council races is support to introduce a bill overturning Citizens United. Then Medicare for all. Then a bill codifying full reproductive health for women.
Then a robust voting rights bill that has teeth and accountable. Then full rights for LGBTQIA. Then an immigration bill that addresses border safety but also gives everyone who leaves processing with a legal paperwork and attainable path to citizenship. Then a bill outlawing the electoral college.
Two party system is pretty much permanent with our system of elections as it exists. Strip the Democratic Party for parts and wear it as a skin is a better option
This is really it, I think. Keep all the Dem money, access to power structures, but turn it into the party of AOC, Crockett, Raskin, Schiff, Frost, Murphy, Larson, Duckworth.
They already exist and there are more than just a couple of them. No need to start from scratch in our money-driven system.
It doesn’t help to not vote. That’s why Trump got elected. The number of people who didn’t vote is astounding. Not voting is not protesting. It’s not standing up for democracy
In UK, Thatcher won 3 elections mainly because Labour had loads of infighting and splits
They only managed to win in 1997 after 18 years of conservatives wrecking it and the same happened in 2010 and kept them in power for 14 years.
We need a voting system that gives Independent candidates a chance and voters a real choice. In Maine, we often have 3 candidates for 1 spot. With a vote split 3 ways, the winner does not have a majority. That's how we got LePage. Now we have ranked choice voting and we elected Janet Mills.
Oh God no. It would be more vote splitting. You can run in the main party with your fresh bold ideas, and if there is an appetite for it, you will see the votes.
The why not is, basically because it will split the vote. Hard core MAGA are not going to switch and neither are Reagan Republicans. They vote red, get screwed, then the blue come in and fix the economy by bailing them out. First chance they get, they vote red again. Dems need to restructure
Several people have already pointed out the problems with this approach.
You have to reform/take over the existing party. That’s how MAGA won, they took over the Republican Party.
Same thing has to happen to the DNC.
True upper class progressive values. Upper middle class at best.
If you want working class you need things like access to good jobs and home ownership (with or without college). Without those you're only talking to people who are comfortable and owe their comfort to the current system.
I was first excited about-and voted for-WFP when I lived in NY, because of the fusion voting thing (where you can vote for the same candidate on either ticket, thus both building the WFP by checking that box but not ticket splitting/throwing the race to the GOP).
Though it's still important to pay attention to ballots and ballot lines, the solutions to the current stagnant fascist-trending political directions will not be achieved by just voting and/or just "joining" (whatever that currently means) a party.

Reform or zero donations and zero votes.

If you sign up as a dem and collect sigs its gonna be relatively easy to get on a primary ballot
If you are in an alt party, you may not be able to get on a ballot at all, or might be stuck running as an independent
We got to steal the keys to the blue car from grandma
This is from 2016:

What else ya got?
People keep commenting about not to splinter the party. It's already splintered. How do you fix something beyond repair?
Let's not allow such idiocy all over again.

Wish we had that in CA.
