Some thoughts:

• I do agree that an exit ticket can support us in planning back ways, ensuring that we are realistic, but ambitious, in what we want to cover in that lesson. But far from the only way we can do this, of course.

• I again agree, that completed well, an exit ticket provides very useful data on the effectiveness of what was just taught. My emphasis here is on 'completed well'. How often is an exit ticket completed well, and how often is it rushed/incomplete/poorly created in the first instance?

Again, lots of food for thought. If you don't already use them, and aren't expected to, I'd advise to steer away. If you are, this blog does give ideas on their effective use.

Agree. I'm dubious there's anything to exit tickets in secondary science that's better than having a clear idea of the learning objective and an appropriate sequence of tasks for the students. With trainees, I tend to see reduction to something trivial.

For me, its simply that assessment needs to be done sooner, and also acted upon sooner. If we discover something for the first time as students leave a lesson, then it is too late really.
