Spectacular! When I was there, I hadn't imagined that centuries of dirt and pollution had darkened it that much. Am glad it could be rebuilt--especially for the many to whom it meant a great deal.
Sure, that's a cool old building built with slave labor and all, but might it have been a better use of the funds to decarbonize the French economy so that the country can last for another 800 years?
I find this gross and disgusting. The money spent to rebuild this cathedral could have done so many better things. I’d rather have seen the burnt out husk stand as a testament to gods
disappointment with humanity
Notre Dame de Paris's restoration crews must have cleaned every stone. I assume there was soot from the fire. I can't remember it being so bright. Great job!!
The sad part in all of this, is that Jesus would have begged the church not to use the money to restore an outdated edifice but instead help millions of people who were hungry & homeless.
But of course organized religion needs its Disneyland attractions to keep the money flowing & the myth alive.
And here is a pleasant spin for those of us stuck living the rest of our lives in a version of that church that doesn't appear visually to have the history we expect: we get to see it the way the original artists who made it would've gotten to see it. Most future generations won't.
Disappointed that they didn't accept their setback as a disapproving sign from their god and do some actual good in the world with all that moolah instead. Unsurprised, but disappointed.
You must not have studied any architecture or art history. Most of the masterpiece pieces and the great European architecture were paid for by the church. They’re still masterpieces of architecture and skill.
As a Catholic it is one of the sacred places of my faith. I understand the aesthetic regard that secular people place on it, but as someone of the faith it’s more profound than that. It’s a physical representation of the rapture of my faith.
Even an obstinate old atheist like myself will celebrate beauty when I see it. So glad they were able to not just save it but restore it to arguably ‘better’ than new. I doubt those stones have ever been so clean since the day they were carved.
Same here. The disparaging, often snarky comments from many opposed to this restoration arguing that the money raised for it could have better gone to other more worthy charitable causes (relieving suffering of the poor/afflicted) seem misplaced, though it's challenging to explain exactly why, tbh.
I heard this story on NPR the other day. The restorers used a latex emulsion that they spread on the stone; when they pulled it off centuries of grime came off with it.
👍 I’ve been following the restoration since it started. As an architect I’ve a keen interest in it. It’s been a huge plus for resto techniques overall because it was such a high profile job.
I would hope to think there is a silver lining in even the most horrible disaster.
Spending money to restore a Historical Architectural Building built by Artesians that many risked their lives to build & show their talents while making a living doing what they love most is always a great investment. The tourism this Build brings to the area will more than repay the cost.
I was so sad to have seen this French National Treasure in flames in real time. I’m so glad the French government made its restoration a priority. And, I’m in such awe and gratitude to the many craftsmen it took to bring her back to her full glory. May she stand for centuries more to come!! 💕
Same, I was there in 2018 so the sight of it on TV in out of control type fire really shocked me to my core. It’s really heartwarming to see the world has pull together to save this tremendous piece of architectural, cultural and religious history.
Yep. Watching it live as the giant steeple caught. & commentators were pronouncing on the lack if structural integrity without that. But look what we can do when we want to save something. 🥹
I don't need to be religious to be amazed at the centuries and generations of effort and craftsmanship this monument represents. I am glad to see it not discarded, and that great work reduced to naught too soon.
Should have been left a ruin. Not a cent should have been spend on this monument to vanity while kids go hungry, the elderly freeze, and we struggle to live. We can have nice things once everyone’s needs have been reasonably met
An obscene amount of money that could have solved any number of issues
Exactly Zero public funds should have been spent on this. Sure it is a historic building, but it belongs to a death cult that has caused untold amounts of suffering.
Well they have this regular ritual where they symbolically drink the blood and consume the flesh of a zombi (risen from the dead) Demigod. Their symbol is a torture device that was used to brutally put criminals to death.
Religion has never stopped a war, but it has started plenty of them.
it’s bread and wine even in the last supper it was bread and wine, it represented his blood and body but wasn’t actually it. Also the cross represents that God went through the pain and struggle just for us to be able to enter heaven and so we use that symbol to honour him and to give thanks.
Odin gave his son a powerful hammer. The christian god had his son nailed to a cross. Who is a better father? The christian god admitted his weakness and jealousy of other gods. Oden is the all father who protects us from weak false gods.
First God did not nail Jesus to the cross it was the Jewish people, second Jesus chose to give his life to give us the opportunity to enter heaven, also about ur jealousy part , he’s telling us not to worship statues and other false gods and to follow the truth. He gives us a choice to worship him.
It is absolutely symbolic of eating his flesh and drinking his blood. These words are part of the ritual as Jesus himself stated. The cross was a torture device for killing criminals. Spin it all you want but the central ritual is a death cult of canibaliatic design.
The Catholic Church received $3 billion in PPP loans during the pandemic lockdowns. Tfg admin made a special exception to allow religious institutions access to taxpayer funded bailouts. Oh, there are also 6 catholic justices on scotus trying to take us back to the Stone Age.
I'd be happy to exempt the employees of Catholic institutions from paying taxes on their earnings if I could also prohibit them from participating in healthcare and education.
This church like many others belongs to France since 1905 not to the Catholic Church. It is a tourist hub so it’s just business. Feel free to sell your home and give to the poor.
I am an atheist, but I know we can do both. Protect cultural heritage, architecture, and art; all while feeding the hungry and helping the less fortunate and needy amongst us. Greed is the deterrent, IMHO. Greed, apathy, & hate.
Sure. But the point was that everyone finds money for things they want and think it trickles down to fix other problems most people don't want to tackle because it's hard.
I am no longer very religious but I love this cathedral, its artwork, the architecture, its history, its place in Paris. Saw it just after the fire. Wish to see it now.
I’m so happy to see it back to its original glory. Notre Dame was one of the most beautiful sights I’ve ever seen and I’m so happy others get to experience it again.
I’ve watched videos on the restoration and it is amazing. They used only tools that were available during its original construction. Handmade tools also. The oaks for the beams, 1000 of them were all from France. Truly epic craftsmanship.
Biggest scam ever. It was in decline & parts of it falling about the French government cut its spending on culture big time. Then all of a sudden there was a huge fire.... Makes you wonder.
But it is a beautiful place.
Notre Dame Cathedral has such iconic and cultural significance. It was heartbreaking to watch it burn, and I'm delighted to see the greatest professionals in the world come together to restore its beauty. The world can work together.
They brought back the original brightness by cleaning off the 100s of years of oil lamp soot and rock aging. They will start rejuvenating the exterior stone next.
Yeah and guess who's coming to France this Saturday for the inauguration of the rebuilt Notre Dame Cathedral. The 🍊 man. Why couldn't France be like Canada and prohibit his entry into France, being he's a felon and all.
#1 I hope they didn’t stick a whole lot of lights all over the place and that the photographer merely opened the aperture on the camera. It’s supposed to be dark because of the windows.
Congrats France. We here in the US, were deeply saddened by the fire damage to Notre Dame and celebrate with you the magnificent restoration your craftsmen and artisans have accomplished. I can't wait to see it in person.
And saved in large part due to a video game having tons of detailed photos structural engineering information and material shots. Which were literally invaluable to the restoration of like for like.
3D modeling is a great tool for Historic Preservationists.
I’m sure you know Assassin’s Creed III, set in Revolutionary War America.
Its vivid virtual landscapes, recreated with the latest historical data, raise awareness about vanished historic resources and inspire further preservation efforts.
Firstly saved by the brave firemen while the building was close to a collapse. But then yes, the 3D modelling of the video has been very helpful for the restoration, it seems!
I was in Paris over a decade ago and visited the awesome cathedral. I was shocked when the fire occurred. Glad to see this beautiful place was able to be renovated so beautifully.
Where the hell is your coverage of Trumps abysmal cabinet nominees. Nice story. Important while America is burned to the ground because legacy media didnt cover Trump truthfully.
80 of the tradesmen who worked tirelessly to rebuild it have formed a choir and will be performing on Dec 11th. in the Cathedral to commemorate its rebuilding. I haven't read what time yet.
I saw a documentary on the repair of this beautiful church. It wasn’t easy. So many people with special knowledge were involved to find how to repair it as builders back in time built t
the original. It was very interesting. Thank all of you for doing a supreme repair.
I’ve visited 3 times. In ‘16 I captured this image of the memorial candles 🕯️ every country I visit I try to spend time in a cathedral as a spiritual, not religious person, taking the time to reflect on loved ones and light candles for them. Happy it is back after devastation.
And while so many celebrate the restoration of a historical and culturally important piece of architecture, an entire beautiful and historically rich culture is being obliterated, including its people. Where is the balance of justice? The hypocrisy is rife.

Restore an old church, instead of feeding the hungry and housing the homeless, really made me lose faith in humanity.
disappointment with humanity
Travail bien fait.
But of course organized religion needs its Disneyland attractions to keep the money flowing & the myth alive.
I know exactly how corrupt organizations work.
I guess the question is, do you know how this works?
I always hoped that I would return again. But now, it will only be through memories.
I would hope to think there is a silver lining in even the most horrible disaster.
Like the last election 😉
I was sure that was a covid thing.
Freemason renovators have distorted soul of Notre-Dame Paris driving away the sacred shadows that once allowed for meeting with the Divine
In their quest for clarity transparency they erased what made the church conducive to reflection, prayer intimacy with the invisible.

An obscene amount of money that could have solved any number of issues
Religion has never stopped a war, but it has started plenty of them.
Those billionaires should have been paying taxes instead and the money used on public service and public works.
Cults protect the wealthy, so the wealthy protect cults.
it is just a meme.
theocrats there know what guillotines are
Kamala Harris raised $1.5B for her campaign (and lost) and ended up $20m in debt. Imagine how she could have helped the homeless and hungry.
But it is a beautiful place.

Its vivid virtual landscapes, recreated with the latest historical data, raise awareness about vanished historic resources and inspire further preservation efforts.
Trump said to hit it with water bombs or it couldn’t be saved.
And they didn’t do it.
Also I am not religious at all, just love to see human achievement.
the original. It was very interesting. Thank all of you for doing a supreme repair.
