A court finding that the Trump administration did not comply with an earlier order and a recent statement by Vice President JD Vance have some experts warning of a potential constitutional crisis.

In 1832 President Andrew Jackson ignored the supreme court’s ruling on the Cherokee's independence and launched the forced migration of the Cherokee Nation known as the Trail of Tears. Who is trump’s favorite president? Andrew Jackson.
As warned by @luriedanielfavors.bsky.social many times. They say “Who’s gonna check me boo?” The only way to stop them is to send Federal Marshals to arrest them. The question is who is going to do it?
I so which the republican congress would grow a set of “big balls” and impeach the felon for breaking the law and not following the constitution. As felon trump tries to expand the power of the executive branch he begins to end the 3 branch system. SHAME
We have ended all rights for all the people.
Americans, eventually, will overthrow this fascist government. It’s happened globally when the people realize that rights matter.
We are CURRENTLY in a Constitutional Crisis! Unelected oligarchs have full reign over our institutions, deleting information they see fit, enriching themselves. Its a coup from the inside, check and balances be damned
This is hopelessly naive. He is already acting outside the law. We are in a constitutional crisis, whether or not the attorneys interviewed are willing to admit it. 🚨 🚨 🚨
Y’all are behind the times on this one, the constitutional crisis is here, and we need every reputable news source to stop being polite and start getting real
For my Conservative friends:
* There's a big rulebook that everyone has to follow.
* President Trump and his friend, Vice President Vance, are NOT following some of the rules.
* This makes people WORRIED, which is a big problem.
* They call this a "Constitutional Crisis"
I may not be conservative but I appreciate what you're doing. Getting this news in a digestible format will hopefully bring other conservatives to the light. This is bad for everyone. Keep fighting the good fight!
As the Uni. of Virginia law prof said on All Things Considered last night, we’re not in a Constitutional Crisis yet, it’s more of a “Constitutional Stress Test.” It’s not a crisis unless Trump defies a court’s final order. Let’s wait and see what unfolds before we jump to crisis mode.
this is bad yall. he's already defied court orders, a statement from him saying he would obey the courts means less than nothing out of his mouth, and he only hasnt disobeyed any supreme court orders because nothing has gone that high yet. please please please stop both-sidesing.
It's called gaslighting. They are part of the problem. Why we need to boycott all mainstream/legacy media. They do nothing but uplift and normalize everything that is abnormal right now. Unsubscribe and do not click on any of thier links! Or continue to ask this question you are asking. Your choice
What do you mean "potential"? I understand there are already approx. 50 Trump/Musk calamities waiting for Supreme Court rulings. If Trump can sign dozens of royal proclamations every day then the SC needs to get out of bed a half hour earlier to deal with the backlash.
How is it that all we normal, average citizens see it and the supposed experts and media are insisting on soft selling it? They need to open their fucking eyes and admit we’re in trouble here 🤬
Because people that are not on blue sky and get their news from main stream media still don’t have a clue. It’s a damn shame that grown adults are not paying attention.
I keep seeing people say this and I wonder how true it is. Most people I talk to have some idea of what's happening, they just feel utterly powerless. If I'm being honest, so do I. But I am in a blue state. Maybe in conservative states things are worse? Gotta wait til it affects them I guess.
Consider US literacy rates, more than half of adults read below a 6th grade level, and 1 in 5 are functionally illiterate. Most folk cannot do their own research, and depend entirely on TV, radio, and churches.
Oh I'm well aware, I'm a [semi-retired, thank God] teacher. I guess I just had more faith that the noisy among us (myself included) were reaching their neighbors. I feel like I've been shouting from the rooftops for months now. Do I give up? Switch strategies? I'm just so tired.
"possible?" Seriously? Don't play nice with the asshole. He hates you anyway. Musk and Trump are effectuating the final act of the coup. It is a fucking constitutional crisis already.
First of all, we are already in a Constitutional crisis. That happened as soon as Congress ceded its authority to T***p.
Second, yesterday, T***p said "We need to look into the Judges," in response to a question about their rulings. It appears he intends to fully compromise the judiciary.
He has zero power over the judiciary. He can ignore court orders but if he does, everyone who works for him can ignore whatever illegal order he is giving and if he fires them over it, they will sue and win. Even the military can tell him GFY if it's illegal.
You are about 10 years too late. FiNCEN ID’d the rapist felon in office as a Russian money launderer before he ever ran for office. He has 0 friends. Only future co-defendants. Thank Rudy and Merrick Garland.
For fucks sake. Everyone in the media acting like Trump isn't a dictator still. He is violating the constitution. He said he was gonna be a dictator. He said we should ignore the constitution. The supreme court said a president is above the law. It's already done. We have a dictator.
Genuinely speaking, you guys need to start reporting things a way that the MAGAs can digest it. 4th grade English with lots of exclamation points, CAPS, point out the urgency and the horrors. This is actually terrifying.
“Courts ultimately have few ways to punish a president…but Congress still exists to intervene… if the president is claiming authority under a statute to do X…Congress can amend the statute and say, you don't have the power.” Except he’s defying statutes Now. So this circle is useless. Thx NPR.
So, some say we’re in a constitutional crisis, others say we’re not. Me, I’m just a guy, a citizen, where can I find out which is true? I’m imagining some institution, maybe we can call it “reporting” or something, that can tell us clearly what’s happening—& if they can’t tell, why that is.
It’s only a crisis if they are ALLOWED to get away with it. Hold everyone who is in contempt in jail. If there are are no meaningful consequences, then the law becomes meaningless. That’s how we got FOTUS. (Felon of the US)
Hello everyone...if he breaks the Constitution, we, the States and People, no longer have to follow it. He's breaking Federal laws . State Rights prevail....long live the Republic of California!!!
Exactly what I've been saying for decades. When they were interviewing the Kochs while it was obvious the collateralized debt obligations were about to do a depression, made me sick to my stomach.
They already have a target on them as they are very much seen as a left leaning news source. They can try to appease all they want, it never works with regimes. Speak up now because regimes always replace leadership with regime insiders or sell off the entire org.
Is constitutional crisis what we’re calling it when some guys in the government have just decided the rules don’t matter and they’re daring you to arrest or kill them before they just stop doing whatever they want?
Just wanna be super clear because it seems like a bit of an understatement.
Yeah what is the court actually going to do and how are they going to enforce it. At this point Trump's administration is calling the court's bluff. Which is why they continue to go about their plans.
It's becoming more apparent that the law is not working.... and our options are limited.
But there are options.... unfortunately, they're also illegal.
And the gaslighting by the US medua continues. Love how NPR is acting like this is breaking news...maybe a 3 weeks ago...a little late for the party, but then again that's our media!!
If Trump ignores a court order, every single employee who he tells to ignore it and do something can legally tell him to GFY and win in court if he retaliates against them.
If he issues an illegal order the entire military can tell him to GFY.
Going to be? Really. Just because experts don’t want to cause a “panic” regarding the state of democracy in this country does not mean we have a democracy left.
Warning? Think we're already here when you have Yale law graduate puppet Vance telling the American public just bc a judge makes a ruling it doesn't necessarily mean it is worth anything
I'm sorry... a "potential" crisis? Potential? Not active? Not completely 100% active crisis? Or have my eyes, and ears decieved me? Nope, just checked, they are working fine.
We're Americans, we like our comforts. This is why everyone is pointing the finger at media and outnumbered elected officials to do something - the people don't want to actually make the sacrifices themselves.
Stop warning. It's here already. Facts are facts, while you are at it, please call the US a dictatorship. Congress has given its power and he will defy the courts. We are here. Stop being evasive.
Potential?
I'm no expert in anything, but the president issuing an executive order that contradicts the plain text of the 14th amendment to the Constitution sounds like a crisis to me.
If the administration fails to comply, this probably won't be resolved by the federal government. One lasting solution would be to amend the US constitution (via constitutional convention) to provide for some sort of no-confidence vote.
State legislatures are more influenced by the concerns of their constituency (vs. party), and a grass-roots rejection of federal leadership has the best chance of getting traction there. Things would have to get pretty dire for this to trigger, but I'm confident we'll get there.
With npr’s habit of pussyfooting around the hard subjects, I don’t trust anything they’ll put up about something like this that could literally potentially lead to war…
The country asked for this. No one is radical enough to STOP BELIEVING IN and SUPPORTING this broken 2 party system or to date stand up to make any changes.
Musk breaking things while Congress sits idly by isn't a constitutional crisis?! No one elected Elon! He has less government experience than Trump! We are already in a constitutional crisis!
He is basically trying to take full control in the short term until the law catches up. He incited and condoned an insurrection. His followers will make up a story though supporting it though.
We are already there NPR. They are already ignoring certain court orders and continuing to freeze funding. Catch up. We are under an authoritarian government. The constitution isn’t fully in effect.
You know back in school when you were studying the rise of fascism in Europe in the 20s/30s, and wondered how most of the European and American press allowed the rise to occur with very little real exposure or opposition?
I'm so tired of this kind of reporting. "Maybe it kinda could sorta happen if only the possibility of a crisis was clearly imminent"
.
Call it what it is. The Republic is falling and the checks and balances are gone.
Trump and his minions are ignoring Federal Court orders. Nothing is being done about it. Some companies and people are obeying the orders even if not targeted at them. I am not clicking through to read an article with such a bad clickbait headline.
REPORT on what the Courts are actually doing and NOT what the the idiots "might" do about it. A real service to your readers would be explaining these court decisions as enforcing and ujpholding the RULE of LAW in America.
Please help spread the word #presidentsnotkings protest this Monday. Let’s read out the Declaration of Independence at every state capitol in the country
You continue with mealy mouthed view from nowhere “some experts are worried framing.” You have faculty, if a
VP implies ignoring courts is an option, you’re allowed to call it what it is. Fucking cowards.

We are already in a constitutional crisis!
Do better folks.
Second, yesterday, T***p said "We need to look into the Judges," in response to a question about their rulings. It appears he intends to fully compromise the judiciary.
The FBI also reports to him, and I can see him turning them loose on the judiciary, especially those judges that do not decide in his favor.
Trump/Vance plan on doing anything they want, illegal or not.
Vance said, reference a Supreme Court ruling, "The chief justice has made his ruling. Now let him enforce it"

Who would have known?
But there are options.... unfortunately, they're also illegal.
Here's a question (or two):
What are you as a citizen, going to do about it...and how far are you willing to go ?... because, just complaining about it isn't going to cut it
If he issues an illegal order the entire military can tell him to GFY.
Is this article from 1982?
We have been there bro.
Catch TF up.
Psh, potential...
If the Executive is ignoring court orders then we're in a Constitutional crisis, no potential to it.
Until impeached and found guilt, the only way to stop Trump will ultimately be a general strike and/or a refusal to pay taxes.
Do we love our freedom or our comforts more?
any federal employee that has to choose between a court order and instructions from trump has to choose the courts
I'm no expert in anything, but the president issuing an executive order that contradicts the plain text of the 14th amendment to the Constitution sounds like a crisis to me.
Come on NPR, stop couching words and tell it like it is.
Did you use Google Maps to arrive so late to that conclusion?
This is how it happened.
Equivocating and obfuscating reporting like this.

Call it what it is. The Republic is falling and the checks and balances are gone.

That is treason!
