Colorado Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet stopped short Wednesday of calling on Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to step down from leadership, but came pretty darn close.

Pretty darn close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. NOT in the fight against fascism. Pretty darn close might as well be "was too chickenshit to take a real stand."
My preference would be somebody younger, progressive, charismatic and can deliver the message well. Right now I'm leaning towards AOC or Pete Buttigieg. I like Jasmine Crockett as well.
Well, I was thinking of the overall party when I said we need new leadership. IMO, I'm not fond of many senators. I am drawn to Senator Duckworth. Obviously, a compelling story. She doesn't back down. I would like to hear some other thoughts.
I think Sen. Bennet should replace Schumer as the Senate minority leader. Unlike Schumer, he speaks with passion, says what he means, means what he says, and he is excellent on the stump. I cringe whenever I see Schumer in front of a hot mic ... he means well but lacks the charisma needed to lead.
Yea, it's time Democrats learn to stop bringing books to a knife fight and/or talking things to death in hopes that an agreement can be reached. How long will it take for Dems to realize neither approach is the least bit effective any longer. How stupid can we be?
Schumer says some Republicans told him quietly he was right in assuming R's would have done much worse than they're already doing if a shutdown had occurred. It's time to name those R's, Chuck, or there's no reason to believe you.
Dems come pretty darn tooting close to saying that this crud of a mess is a flipping shame and they sure as heck were fixin' to do something 'bout it, but daggnabut there's not nuthin' in tarnation to do about this son of a biscuit eater.
Chuck Schumer needs to step down! Come on, let’s all just say it out loud! Enough is enough already! We need real leadership, not a man constantly who caves.
While I usually agree with the progrsssives, not threatening to shut down the government was a good thing in many ways right now. In September, we can probably use it, but not right now.
For American democracy to have a fighting chance to exist, voters need to pressure their timid Corporate Profits first senators to replace #CollaboratorChuck Schumer ASAP
We call, we write the GOP reps. They ignore us, their staff are rude to us. They don’t answer our questions. We peacefully protest…47 breaks the law. When will you fight for us
I think the Senate should focus more on WTF is going on. Why does trump want to shut the gov't down? What would happen if he did? Because it keeps rearing its ugly head. And it doesn't sound like a very good idea.
To do that we need a strong leader on the Democrat side. Chuck Schumer is not it. He’s playing footsie’s with the Republican Party right now. The Democratic voters don’t want that. I’m personally sick of it and have left the party to become an independent.
Why is the media focused on the drama instead of educating readers about the powers of the National Emergency Act and how Dems had no leverage? Can we get more substance and less tabloid drama? More about the lawlessness of this administration?
As a Colorado resident, I believe Senator Bennet’s eyes are on the Minority Leader seat (and beyond). Just saying- it may be about political motivations vs values.
Wow, does nobody see this as the lesser of two evils and be able to articulate why well enough to get the rest of the party behind it with a solid message? A shutdown would have made the opposition’s work much easier. My humble opinion…
Stop, just stop. You may disagree with Schumer or you may agree. But stop fighting and get it together! We have the moral high ground but can't communicate that to save our lives. We need street savvy, ethical messengers. If you have them, use them. If you don't, get them.
Thanks @schumer.senate.gov for preventing a government shutdown. The Courts are winning against Trump.
"Federal courts could operate for several weeks without congressional funding, relying on fees and other funds, but eventually would have to scale back activity."
Figure out which side your on, then sh*t or get off freaking the pot.🤬🔥🤬
What Schumer did was total disregard for the people that gave him his job in the first place, he IMMEDIATELY needs to go. No excuses, interviews, discussions, JUST GO.
Saw an interview yesterday, can’t remember the name of the Democrat, he called for leadership yet refused to ask for Schumer to resign. It looks very wafflish.
We don't have the time to stop short any longer. Niceties are over, we need new leaders, bold leaders, leaders who will bring an actual gun to a gunfight, not a peanut butter sandwich and a harshly worded letter.
Almost doesn’t count. White people Need to realize these white people are evil. They are only hesitating because he’s white. If it were Chuck Brown, he would have been gone.
Kind of funny how @schumer.senate.gov knew exactly when it was time for Joe Biden to go but can’t recognize it for himself 🤔 Ego is a helluva thing when combined with delusion or dementia. Just like you told Joe, time to go Chuck.
Democrats need to cap leadership at 60 years old. You can continue to run your state/district but as a face of the party we need voices that actually represent the generations we're trying to get votes for. No one under 40 connects with Schumer.
I left the Democratic Party Monday for Independent. The democrats have no answers. They have known who, and what, Donald Trump was since at least 2016, and did nothing. Politicians are not going to solve this crisis.
When Bennet actually did call for Schumer’s Resignation from the Senate Minority Leader position then write an article about it. Otherwise, this is clickbait, NPR!! DO BETTER NEXT TIME!!
We tried the old head Dems way and it failed horribly. Now we see them still trying to coast through Trump's Presidency like oh don't worry we'll gain the House or Senate next year maybe. We need new faces who actually present a new direction for the party. Not it worked in the 90s it'll work now.
The problem is that Schumer and a lot of the Democrats there would rather give up power to Trump. Then let the AOC, Bernie, Sanders, and other progressive have a leadership role or listen to the people.
The same, but my wife and I have taken it further. We changed our affiliation to Independent. We are no longer Democrats. While the Dems are the lesser of the two evils, they are still evil. We need better alternatives.
Democrats threatening to do something was like my mom threatening to turn the car back around and go back home. Always stopping short. Always doing nothing. Useless.
I think Senator Bennet should go. He's not doing anything but supporting chaos for everyone. He and most Republicans do not deserve to "serve (a joke)" be in office. They are simply collecting paycheques. They are a pitiful excuse for leaders representing Americans.
The playbook should not include always being on your back foot in a defensive position. Take the hypocrisy of Conservatives and throw it back into their faces before they act on their authoritarian tenancies. It is called flip the script.
A puffed up idealogue like Schumer will never admit they were wrong, or step down because they've made a terrible mistake. But, hey, Schumer is glad that Trump likes him. Doesn't care if he sold out his Democrat colleagues, his constituents, and the whole country.
If Schumer doesn't go, there'll be no more support for Democrats from this independent. We are factually no worse off than if I threw my vote away. So given Dems like my Senator Fetterman (who I once supported strongly) offer no value, I'll do precisely that until someone offers what I value.
Schumer has worked primarily to represent Wall Street for many years at this point so I get the anger. However I suspect as we slip from the current recession into an economic depression over the next 10 months, the Wall Street guys are going to become big allies is overthrowing Republican control.
Dear Democrats, if you want my vote thenyou need to start earning it, you need to fight for us and not against us. We need to see if you still care about us because we know the Republicans don't. We will not be waiting for you forever, so you need to get it together asap. Signed the American people
If we search the distant past we might find a template for the Democrats pushing their leader into the trash heap. It also requires assistance from the media to report that people are saying things in private.
Glad someone is turning against the coward. @schumer.senate.gov has had a long political career and none of it matters because his legacy will always be that he was a coward that gave in to fascists.
When was the last time democrats geared up and fought for people? They gave up in 2000, gave up in 2020, gave up public option during ACA. I got numerous examples. Imagine Bill Clinton, followed by Gore, Obama, Hillary. USA could've been on another level. Instead ended here in oligarchy.
Spineless refusal to call out the names of those in question is the exact same lack of backbone that those who need to be removed have relied on for decades. Be direct if you want to make a point. Stop pussyfooting around. Call them out by name. That goes for EVERYONE, Bennet included.
Senate Democrats need to replace Chuck Schumer with a leader for the American people. Schumer is not fit to lead. He's stuck in the mode of "leading" the senate minority like he's leading a gentleman's social club. He doesn't see republicans as the ruthless and cutthroat adversaries that they are.
What are preparing for from the elected Democrats is: "We aren't going to do anything, but if the electorate keeps us on the fire, we will rethink that."
The problem of revolutions from below is that they take enormous amounts of time.
Chuck Schumer should step down. We need a Democrat Senate leader who can lead with a singular message against this corrupt authoritarian regime. Now is not the time to sing kumbaya.
I see variations on this every day here: Trump MUST Be Impeached NOW!! I get the passion. But, please, stop with messages like these. You’re just yelling into the void. Rs WON'T do it.
But, Ds could generate news and educate people. THAT’S constructive.
And Democrats are tired of LefTea hangers on doing nothing but sabotaging Democrats gaining power. Biden pulled this country out of the ditch, and I bet you lambasted him the entire time.
It’s time to end the “two party” system. It’s time to end the Voting Rights violations of “if we don’t approve of your candidate running, your vote DOESN’T count”. It’s time to end media bias and allow ALL candidates to be publicly represented at ALL levels of public attention.
We are even forced to either vote for specific Democrat or Republican Party chosen candidates, throw in with an Independent Party, or not have our votes counted AT ALL. We are FORCED to choose “the lesser of two evils” which would STILL be evil.
The Unaffiliated need a stronger voice just as loud.

My vote is for Amy Klobuchar as Leader and Chris Murphy as Whip.
The is about who should be the new minority leader in the Senate.
🤦

Shucks.
They’re happy in their ivory towers.
I get it.
But if Democrats like Senator Benet are going to halfway make comments they need to go full on. I actually like him.
@bennet.senate.gov
If the government shut down, the Repubs would be back first thing Monday begging you for a deal!
McConnell was SMART ENOUGH to do this to the Dems!!!
FFS, WHY!!?
THE DEMOCRATS HAVE AN EFFECTIVE STRATEGIC FIGHTER as their LEADER!
Chuck “The Schmuck” Schumer
I know, it’s very Trumpy, but it does seem to capture the current zeitgeist among Dems too

Y’all don’t realize you are Putins puppets.
Schumer is the man.
If you don’t lead the resistance, you shouldn’t be upset with the path resistance takes…
There is currently only one Senator that caucuses with the Dems that is resonating with voters, and he's not even a Democrat.
Reich-wing. That's very brogressive of you. And so typical
#VichyDemocrats
Thank YOU #ChuckShumer!
We want to hear NOTHING - other than “I RESIGN”
That’s right @schumer.senate.gov - we’re all waiting for YOUR #MOMENT
This #colorado voter in fact insists on it.
#FuckChuck
Somehow, this doesn't instill confidence.
I know Coloradans like me will remember in 2028.
@bennet.senate.gov
The problem of revolutions from below is that they take enormous amounts of time.
Thankfully, they immediately received a call from their corporate PACs and lobbyists, averting the potential crisis of real governance.
But, Ds could generate news and educate people. THAT’S constructive.
Let's push them to TURN UP THE HEAT!
