Happy Baltic π±πΉ π±π» πͺπͺ rail timetable coordination day π
From today onwards you can *finally* go from Vilnius via RΔ«ga and Valga to Tallinn in a day (the reverse also works)
Getting stuck in Valga is no more
One of my #CrossBorderRail campaign priorities is fixed! πͺ

There might be more extreme risks to such a geopolitically precarious location.
How will it be to do it? Vilnius-RΔ«ga: comfortable. RΔ«ga-Valga: a step back to the 1980s. Valga-Tallinn: modern but basic
Is it significant? Yes. Because this was basically impossible before, now it works
First itβs exactly the sort of simple solution Iβve always advocated: coordination of timetables. No new trains or extra staff were needed
Second Iβve talked about this Valga problem in all my speeches. People go βthatβs so silly!β And now itβs fixed! π
For the record: I was last stuck in Valga in early November.
i've seen the real old beat up ones, but i've also seen ones that, while still old, have some renovated interiors that are at least passable
i hope that line gets electrified eventually though bc i love our new trains
Whether the trains will wait for the incoming ones in the case of delay we don't know yet.
But this has been coordinated to work.
Great to see political leadership making a difference like this π. Like you say, no additional costs involved, so it seems like a bit of a no-brainer!
All three components of the route existed already, but with timetables that were not coordinated. Briskens, the Latvian Minister, sat everyone down and got it fixed.
