Also friendly reminder, in most places in the US, anyone who lives in a school district can run for school board. You do not need to have kids. You just need to care about education and serving your community. Most are volunteer positions, but most don't require more than a few hours a month.

It's also a FANTASTIC way to get involved in politics as at a local level. If you have political ambitions at any level, county, state or federal, starting with your school board is a great idea.

And if you want to help public libraries, a lot of public libraries also have boards where most people run UNOPPOSED for YEARS.

If running isn't in the cards for you, for whatever reason, show up at meetings and sign up to speak!

It's amazing how many decisions get made by school & library boards just to get people to stop yelling at them at meetings. If the Moms for Liberty crowd are the only people showing up and showing up regularly (and really they're VERY good at showing up) even reasonable boards are going to give in.

I’m on my library board (which is not elected, I applied and the board selected me). We dealt with a book banning episode this year— not a huge one, but troubling nonetheless. I’m glad we are a group primarily of librarians and educators with similar views.

Even before this latest round of fascism, our local libraries basically put donated books straight into a used book sale pile.

That said, you can always put those books in little free libraries as well, if the point is to get greater circulation for them.
