Yes, generally. A group of slingers shooting at a formation of armoured infantry would inflict casualties over time, but the odds of a single slinger taking out a well-armoured man in a single shot are pretty small.

There's an alternate reality where, instead of becoming a "journalist", Gladwell became an airport author. Grisham, Clancy and Gladwell could be gracing everyone's carry on luggage, and no one would have to pretend he was anything other than a decent storyteller.
