I know these images are heavily processed and this one depends on IR, but I wonder what you would see if you were there looking out of a spaceship window.
The first pictures of these clouds were called the Eagle Nebula. In HST pictures it was called the pilars of creation. In these JW pictures it looks more like the fore section of an apocaliptic horse. Still beautiful and astounding.
Remember when the James Webb telescope took a picture of the furthest reaches of space we’ve ever seen but looks kinda like a space themed play mat? (I’m just making an observation of how it looks, I’m NOT trying to deny science.)
this thing stretches over 4-5 LIGHTYEARS btw. for reference, one light year is approximately 9.5 TRILLION kilometers, while the sun is only around 149 km large, so about 63,758 suns could fit in a quarter of this thing
My science curiosity asks what are the dynamics at play here? What causes the mass to coalesce go into fusion and emit light in this particular pattern?
Unlike the more ordered spiral galaxies, the gravitational boundaries seem to be organized differently.
Why don’t we, the people, start a GoFundMe to buy MSNBC? Turn it into a station for truth, by the people, for the people. No scripts, no lies, just raw honesty to rewrite the narrative ourselves.
Answer me this, please. If we are on a round planet constantly moving through space, rotating 1 full revolution in 24 hours and 1 full revolution around the sun in 365 days, why do we always see the same stars and constellations in the sky every night?
It looks so mysterious from thin angle. From one perspective it's a hand of a soul reaching for the light. From other it's giant creatures walking between their worshipers.
Pillars of Creation is such a great name.
Lucky that I don't work for the IAU ... calling this 'The Gigantic Space Snot' would not have been anywhere near as classy.
always fascinated by these false-color images. like obviously yea you need to assign *some* mapping of these infrared wavelengths onto visible light so we can see it at all, but there’s many ways to do that. how do they pick? just one that’s pretty?
The photo just doesn't do justice to the scale it actually is. We are just such a tiny Speck in the enormous universe.
But the photo itself is just mesmerizing.
From an Islamic perspective, the Pillars of Creation are a testament to the vastness and intricate design of the universe, created by Allah. They serve as a reminder of the power and wisdom of the Creator, who has shaped the cosmos with extraordinary beauty and complexity.
While not directly mentioned in the Quran or Hadith, the sight of such celestial wonders can inspire awe and contemplation of the divine. Muslims are encouraged to reflect upon the signs of Allah's existence in nature and to appreciate the delicate balance and order that pervades the universe.
Me, too! I can’t wrap my brain around “space stuff.” I like it, it’s fascinating, often scary or pretty, like this, but it’s too much work to understand. For little ole me. 😂
It is a photograph made from light waves that our eyes aren’t capable of perceiving. So the colors are not the “colors” the thing photographed has. Any photograph is a reproduction of the thing being photographed. Black and white images for example do not reproduce true colors . Does that help?
EL SHADDAI IS FATHER OF YĪSRAʾEL THE CREATOR OF HEAVEN AND EARTH THEY CALL ME EL THE HOLY ONE OF YĪSRAʾEL BEFORE THE DAY WAS I AM HE EVEN BEFORE THEN I AM THE WORD THE MIGHTY ONE OF YĪSRAʾEL, WOE BE UNTO YE THAT ARE BOUND TO RELIGIOUS AND POLITICAL LIES FOR EL ELYON HATETH TRANSGRESSORS!
These would be very beautiful to behold if they were possible, but sadly it’s just an artist’s rendition of what cosmic smokes would look like if magnets existed.
Thinking again, I am bound to time scales related to human life. Maybe some million years later, this might be an area blooming of life. We will never know. In the universe, we are not only separated by spacual distances, but also by time.

What forces are at play?
