QotW:
Resident Evil: X Marks the Spot. We already know Leon is handy with a harpoon but imagine sailing the Caribbean battling BOW infected ships, each island filled with a unique and terrible horror, and if Ethan loses a hand (AGAIN) he can have a cool pirate hook 🪝 It’s BiohazAAAAARRRRd, Mateys!
Qoty: A new Mad Max game set on the 7 seas. They could call it Mad Max: Water World. Seriously though I enjoyed that Mad Max game and a pirate version could be cool.
I wish they did a "remaster" or at least patch it to 60fps for the pS4/5. That game deserved better. Not a graphics whore but the sluggish fps really bothers me in that game.
Cyberpunk 2077 would be a pretty awesome experience. I know cyberpunk is always associated with sprawling city hellscapes but netrunners literally surfing would be rad.
QotW: i want a Fire Emblem pirate game. It would be great to see swashbuckling designs of FE characters as well as having amazing battles with giant sea monsters. Instead of dragon born characters there could be selkies and merpeople. Plus relationship building but with pirates would be a lot of fun
Mario is always the answer. The geniuses at Nintendo can add Mario to seemingly any game and make a hit of it. Koopa pirates, Bowser as a pirate King, the game writes itself.
QOTW: Gears of War would make a great pirate game/segment. Ramming boats with giant chainsaws on the front, active reloading cannons, Marcus with an eyepatch yelling Aarrrr.
QotW: Monster Hunter, or Seamonster Hunter. Working together with individual tugboats and gallons to bring water dwelling Kaiju to the surface with harpoons, nets or whatever else. It'd be like the ending of Godzilla minus one if everyone jumped on him and hacked him to pieces to make armour.
QOTW: a new Dead Rising game but set in the high seas. This 17th century take on the classic zombie formula, mixed with a pirate’s curse, would have you search for treasure, look for survivors, boat battles with apocalypse baddies, tons of pirate-y zombie weapons, and swim with zombie sharks.
Exactly! Bring back the familiar characters like Frank West, but ancient relative. Evil Carlito, but a Latin American rival pirate. You could build the curse (or plague) off of the Port Royal earthquake in Jamaica disaster. And take the tone and sci fi humor like RDR’s Undead Nightmare.
I initially just wrote this as a goof, but thinking a little more about it, a pirate themed shoot-em-up could be rad as hell. Maybe it's a top-down shooter like 1943, but your more powerful weapons get added to your flanks to encourage broadside attacks. It'd even work better with modern 16:9 TVs.
Put a harpoon gun on the front and capture smaller enemies to increase your head on firepower like Galaga. Friendly Merfolk or dolphins acting like Gradius options. Giant kraken and sea dragons as bosses. The more I think about it, the more I want to play it.
Maybe the power-up system involves rescuing sailors who've fallen off their own boats and pressganging them into your crew. Or even add more ships to your navy, a la Sid Meier's Pirates. Sea shanties improve morale so your flagship moves faster. Seriously, someone make this game.
I would love to see a Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks style game made by Rocksteady about the ancestors of Nightwolf/Lui Kang/Jax/Bi Han defending their land from Outworld pirates trying to break the rules of Mortal Kombat and take over earth realm. The combat from Arkham City/Shadows of Mordor…
…would translate well. Skipping between the different regions to stop a different outworld pirate group led by original characters and cameos from other movies and games like Spinal (KI), Davy Jones, Blackbeard, Ching Shih, Black Bart, etc…would be rad. Boss fights could be MK style fights…
While the regular battles and exploration could be closer to Arkham City and just maybe they could resurrect the nemesis system. With so much lore about previous tournaments seemingly untapped I feel like MK would be a great pirate crossover universe.
QotW: Kirby. As we saw more open entry with the post apocalyptic style Forgotten Lands, giving a more pirates themed open seas adventure for a future entry would be fun. Also he would be the cutest little pirate you've ever seen.
I think that a pirate game in the fallout series would be pretty dope. In new Vegas, they had people reverting to emperial Romans, so to me it’s not outside the realm of possibility that folks in some areas would revert to 1800’s style piracy. Imagine the sea monsters we could get!
QotW: Halo 3 had an amazing fan made mode called Pirate Ships, which was Capture the Flag from two of those sandcrawler looking things using Halo weapons, but if you touched the ground, you died. Halo is pretty stale so lets reinvent it using that mode as a template, keep the space guns though
Ace Atterney: Maritime Law. I loved the Return of the Obra Dinn but wouldn’t want the same experience on another ship, plus the 3D exploration was a bit involved. So a more expedited 2D mystery seems the best solution and throw in the Ace Attorney cast and I think we’d really have something…
X-com. Take the Firaxis formula and set it afloat. Raid alien ships and ports and maybe deal with some deep sea monsters. Imagine seeing the love child of an angler fish and a mutoid and somehow missing a 98% shot.
Hey I know I've been going on about Xenoblade a lot recently, but I'm having a season. The second game had a great setting for a pirate game. Sailing around the Cloud Sea between XC2 and its prequel DLC, or even earlier, and harassing the shipping lanes of the nation sized titans while
supplementing your raids with salvage dives to the surface below would be a blast. Your ship, being a smaller titan, would be it's own character and not in a Sex & The City's "New York is the fifth girl" sort of way. More like that episode of Futurama where Bender dates the Planet Express ship.
Anyways, wrap it all up with outrageously dense jrpg systems on top of systems and an overwrought plotline and I think you'd have an incredibly niche microhit for meganerds.
Saying this as not the biggest God of War fan but give us a God of War set in the city of Atlantis. Not sure what gods are associated with Atlantis for Kratos to kill but make them aliens who cares. We can sail around the Bermuda Triangle or something

Like Skeleton Crew, only without the kids.
The correct answer is Arrrrr-Type.
