What a band - with the late Spencer P Jones on slide guitar. All shot on the rooftop of the bass playerβs (then) St Kilda Esplanade apartment, the great Steve Hadley!
If you want to make a delicious gravy, use the pan juices. Drain off the fat/oil, sprinkle in 1-2Tbsp flour (or maize cornflour if you are gluten intolerant). Mix with pan juices until it forms a slurry. Place over heat and add cold water and stir constantly until it boils and thickens
If it goes too thick, add more cold water while stirring. Salt may be added if required to taste (I usually add Β½ tsp with the flour and check after the gravy thickens).
Gravy is ready when it loses its floury look and goes glossy. Decant into jug/gravy boat and serve.
Happy gravy day to you too, Ronni! I'm looking forward to watching the movie with my dear friend who put me up for 9 days post-op, to save me tackling the steps up to my front door. We saved it in her Netflix account for future viewing. π
Replied to Amanda Palmer on FB after she posted about White Wine in the Sun by Tim Minchen and explained that Down Under, we sing a song about gravy by Paul Kelly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYqIF2XkqKU
I often think about Rita. Bloke gets himself locked up, then after coping with work and kids on her own sheβs expected to βsaveβ him when he gets out? On the promise that heβll one day be making plenty?
And heβs policing her fidelity and minimising his crime as βmessed upβ?
I guess we canβt know that, they might be good together, but Iβm not sure we should all be feeling sorry for Joe. We all enjoy a romantic criminal until weβre on the other end of their crimes. Or having to borrow the electricity money from their brother and the complications that involves.
I know plenty of blokes like that. Salt of the earth. True blue Aussies. Real men. In other words, dickheads. Rita, if you need the number for the Domestic Violence Service, DM me!
Really? Yes, Joe's a fuck-up. Joe's been a fuck-up since To Her Door. The world is full of fuck-ups and songs about fuck-ups. It's a song, not an endorsement of the fuck-up.
Also, lots of people get together with fuck-ups, stay with fuck-ups and create fucked-up situations. Most of us have at one point or another, which makes for a shit-ton of songs about fuck-ups.
And there ringing the last bellβ¦. oh, I love our Aussie Christmas songs. They are about love and connection, making mistakes, and trying again, thankfully, not religion.
Also, white wine in the sun makes me cry whatever time of the year I listen to it
Happy Gravy Day Ronni To you all in Salt Manor.May you never have to suffer making gravy over a wood stove in 100 degrees again.waiting for your book to arrive to walk down the best parts of memory lane.#givemylovetoAngus
I re-discovered Ronni here today and I just discovered βthe dayβ on the very day, listened to the song for the first time then watched the movie on Binge and now sitting here in tears. Itβs been a big day, happy Gravy Day Ronni. π
Happy Gravy Day to you and Mr Salt! We had the over the back neighbours come over at 3pm for 'a drink' and knocked off about 11pm. We had cheese for dinner, I guess.
How To Make Gravy has the ingredients to become the best Oz Xmas movie since Bush Christmas (the 1947 one). The music is like gravy on top of memorable ingredients

Reggae and hot summer nights are just perfect and PK knows it.
