About 4 million people voted for reform and as much as I abhor their policies those people deserve to be represented. We need to work on political education and debate at the same time though as I'm certain those 4 million people wouldn't want the NHS to be run into the ground.

We have a constituency based representational system. Each MP should represent all their constituents regardless of whether they voted for them. Under PR many constituencies would have, e.g. a Reform MP imposed on them even though the majority did not want them.

I have have voted in twelve general elections.

In eleven an MP I did not want was imposed on me.

I suspect that Reform would not get many seats under the STV system as few votes would be transferred to them.

Fair enough. I’ve voted in 14. I used to think PR was a no brainier. But I’m far less sure now. All systems have downsides.

Just because you don’t like other voters’ opinions doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be represented in parliament. If they’re in parliament they can be scrutinised and held to account.

I get the principle. But there is also an argument that PR not only amplifies minority voices but, by giving them the balance of power can in fact make them a dominant force. Especially if they are single issue parties this can result in very bad governance.
