Backstory: Almost 10 years ago, we became foster parents to a 3yo kiddo who left our home after a year. That same kiddo unexpectedly came back to us a year ago at age 11, and we almost immediately celebrated his 12th birthday.

All he really wanted was a pair of Nike sneakers. I wish you could have heard his shrieks of joy when he opened them. These kids have been through so much, they ask for so little, and they deserve EVERYTHING. One Simple Wish's mission is to grant any wish for any child in foster care, big or small.

Last year, over on *the other* social media site, we granted $50k worth of wishes, which is absolutely ridiculous and amazing. Right now, OSW has 2,500 wishes waiting to be granted, from toddler toys to young adults who have aged out of the system and could use a little self care.

Right now, Tommy wants a Nike hat. Khalil is hoping for a trip to the movies. Karlton would love a remote-controlled car. Zoe is pining for a "fashion doll" to dress up. These kids appreciate having their wishes granted more than you can imagine. They come from hard places, they are dealing with so much trauma, and then a stranger steps up and sends them the exact toy they've always wanted? It send a powerful message to them that they are not alone.

I'll leave you with this: A pic of our bio son goofing around with our soon-to-be-adoptive son in the airport, on our way to Cancun for spring break in March. Every day on that trip, our younger kiddo told us how we made his biggest wish (to travel *anywhere* on an airplane) come true.
