V entertaining hokum, but Ben Whishaw as a gun-toting assassin just reminds me of his character Pingu in Nathan Barley, forever playing shoot-em-up video games.
Well no, it's not a carbon copy, but it's definitely looking to operate in the same territory. If Slow Horses didn't exist then Black Doves definitely wouldn't.
Couldn’t be arsed with it. Can’t bring myself to give a monkeys about the characters. Lacks the shambling quality of Slow Horses and of course it lacks Gary Oldman.
The supposedly brilliant writers are so America-brained that they think Officer is a rank in British police forces. "Good evening, I'm Officer Williams and this is Officer Kent." And coroners take three days to investigate deaths and reach their conclusions.
That's harsh on BBC Drama. Happy Valley, for example, was brilliant. But the Black Doves crew must have force-fed Sarah Lancashire with sedatives. She's not even phoning it in. It's like she's sent an auto-completed email to a friend asking them to phone it in for her.
I'm enjoying it although Sarah Lancashire is phoning it in to the point where I think she may just be doing a deliberate impression of Control from A Bit of Fry & Laurie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkKSRPOe72M

Option 2 . Binge 6 hours of Joe Bartons latest masterpiece, yep, press play!
Excellent result all round!
"We need an answer to Slow Horses.'
"But like it was written by Richard Curtis."
"Yes. Except when it inexplicably goes all Guy Ritchie."
Total rubbish. They must be popping corks in the Slow Horses production office.
And let's be honest, who hasn't wanted to undertake a bit of homicide in the run-up to Christmas?
Highly preposterous villainy and cracking humour.
Not sure about the ease with which they drive around London though.
