I have a trans friend who had surgery couple years ago and while she has had complications and it appears the surgeon screwed up she still would have gone through with. Hopefully we can get her help with another surgery. She to was very informed and waited years before doing the surgery.

Because we generally spend literally years considering surgeries, just so much self reflection, generally long wait times once they do get scheduled. Also you know, a lot of informed consent and just reading up as mush as possible.

ngl, this is very similar to the convos I've had with gyns over the years, except in the 2nd instance it's just "no, you don't want that, end of conversation"

my new gyn listened to why i want a hysterectomy and we found a potential solution for the dysphoria without major surgery. (cryoablation!)

I've been saying since i was 13 that i wanted one, and i guess I'm finally old enough/long-term single enough to consider it 🙄 (though tbh my dr is really amazing and i feel like she would have listened to me as a teen, except she's younger than me!)

I’ve had two gender-affirming surgeries so far. What I’ve appreciated most is that my surgeons emphasized they’d work with my anatomy to meet my goals, that the outcomes would be unique to me (not trying to copy a photo or idealized part), just how the same parts among cis people vary.

And I liked how communicative everyone’s been about procedures and aftercare. A funny aside: my physical therapist after vaginoplasty was a butch lesbian, and as she walked me through my aftercare she said “Make sure you do it. I don’t want to see you again unless it’s at a community event.” 🫡

This is pretty similar to how my double mastectomy went. My surgeon started the conversation asking me what my goals for this procedure were. He talked with me at length about how he planned on meeting my goals, while also being clear what my outcome would be because of the unique quirks of my body.
