Every few years people re-discover that a lot of romance novels are smut and get really shocked that a lot of women like pornagraphy. Like yes. Some adult humans like erotica. The horror of it all.

Yup. And TBH this isn't helped by a substantial romance faction being Very Offended when our works get described that way, which...not all romance is porn, but some of it 100% is. I try to write what I believe fanfic still calls "porn with plot," no shame at all.
honestly we could do to be more open about talking about erotica, man and women alike. it's kind of weird how no one will admit going to the 38th most popular website on planet earth.
In college, a sociology class, a group project was presenting on pr0n. One of the students held up a copy of Playboy and said, “ no woman wants to look at this.” Me, a woman who had a subscription at the time, immediately thought, “ not true!”
Agreed. Erotica has been a part of humanity since the beginning. We really need to stop pretending it's a new thing. Our ancestors weren't celibate monks, they were just as sex obsessed as now, it's just that it's easy to forget that. And some people WANT us to forget that.
Those tramps 😭 what about the children doesn't anyone ever think of the children 😭 lol I already knew women were pervs lol they are just better at hiding it 😄
Back when Tumblr allowed it people were shocked that women enjoyed porn videos and photos too. Even more so the fact that it wasn't "gentle vanilla" but -gasp- kinky!
This reminds me of the Big Mouth episode where the boys find the romance novel all the girls in their class and their moms are reading, and when they realize girls get horny, too, their heads explode. 😂
Always love talking about the one time a coworker thought he could make me uncomfortable by talking about his porn collection. 2min into me explaining my favorite tags, he ducked out and never spoke to me again 🙃 like. Adult women enjoy feeling good and enjoying themselves. Groundbreaking. 🙃
"The things women are reading are shocking and so detailed and-" yeah man it's porn. It's to get our rocks off. It's fun. It's a fandom. Some people have sexual desire and enjoy reading books that evoke those feelings. OH NOOOoooOooo
Every time it's a man acting shocked and horrified that women are reading something "so gross" I'm like "Hey man, let me see your browser history real fast! 🙂"
That and/or what cishet guys often consider "high standards" is like 10% of the effort every other gender and sexuality puts into basic appearance and interaction.
Like oh no, you might have to take a walk once a week, shower regularly, and be willing to wear a nice suit to restaurants. OPPRESSED.
Man: "He's got big muscles and two dicks???!"
Man: "Where he at?" *Starts hopping around.*
Man: "Where he at?" *Takes shirt off.*
Man: "Where he at?" *Continues hopping.*
Man: "Where he at?" *Jabs the air.*
Man: "Where he at?" *The hops keep happening because this man doesn't know how to fight.*
I... Only like amateur porn, and other than one specific act (which will probably happen sooner or later), I've done everything I've actively watched as far as I can recall, tbh.
But I'm the weirdo in that situation, I'm guessing.
Less shock than surprise. Honestly I was looking for updated Brontes and got something out of the Penthouse Forum. It took all of two seconds to consider the women I know and think: "Well that tracks." 😉
Every man who complains about women reading "spicy books" is legally required to have their internet provider publicly share their entire web history for the past six months.
It’s so hard to engage in the romantasy Novel community(as a lady) because you try to criticize a book for poor writing/characterization/Plot and then you got a bunch of people coming at you like “Yeah And it’s Porn!! All these women read are Smut! I’m not talking about that!! Go away!
Ugh, I read one recently that had generally mid writing (terrible characters), BUT did a last minute heel turn of a plot twist, and the smut wasn't even good. Terrible experience.
And the smut wasn’t even good is sadly such a common experience 😔 it sucks because even IF the characters have defined personalities they switch into Different porn characters because the writer hasn’t actually written any good erotica 😭
When I was a kid, I read the books in my local library. I didn't understand the romance section very well at ten, but I do now. The ladies, I have learned, are more sublime than we are...with a lot of naughty hidden away. 😄
At this point, the truly offensive misconception is when someone reads a romance and declares, "This was actually good!" then has to jump through hoops to find a way to put it down again or risk not being taken seriously.
Because, although women r expected to want every man at every moment and be so excited at the opportunity, we ALSO aren’t expected to enjoy it ourselves. THAT is dangerous…
People told me acotar was spicy. ACOTAR. Raise your smut standards people!!! The first book barely has a make out session. (I didn't and won't read the rest, I know it's supposed to be better)
It's really not. It's terrible. I read the first 5 books. Only the first 2 were remotely palatable. The last three were just awful writing. It felt like no one tried to edit them. Or give serious feedback on them. Because they were beyond awful to read. Don't hurt your brain.
Always wondered if the success of 50 Shades of Grey had anything to do with it coming out the same time, more or less, as the first Kindle readers.
People free to read it on their commute without any judging?
it’s so funny bc they act like it’s new… but my grandmother literally had an entire room she made into a library filled with her smutty little romance novels she has collected over the years {and that was the room the toys were in for when us kids came to visit so it was on full display lolololol}
Lord, these people would have *imploded* if they read some of the lemons floating around https://ff.net back before they chickened out about adult stuff. Or like half of A03 now.
i am agog at how stupid this image is. have they read a romance novel ever? i cannot IMAGINE how stupid you have to be to think romance is more violent to women than porn.
i have been in the gay trenches of literotica (as you do) and misogyny will slip in. In stories about queer men, written by queer men. there is no safe place for women in men's fantasies, I'm afraid (or Black people. They are EXTREMELY racist too, btw)
I'm a man, I mostly won't judge what women (or a man) like to read, but something like guro would make my balls shrink and crawl back into my stomach. Call me snowflake, but that's one of the reason why I can't enjoy some non-porn manga like berzerk.
Also, while I won't be wary of someone being into BDSM, if I learn than some dude is into guro I will consider him a dangerous sicko (unless he self insert as the victim I guess), and no amount of "this is a fantasy" would change that.
That's the same with women's smut I guess. The reason why I don't care about it is that I can't feel threatened by someone who fantasize about being raped by a werewolf. But if that literature was mostly about chopping men to reduce them to their genitals, I would be nervous during dates.
Personally I support porn in all its forms any adult human who wants it. I do feel like some men having that reaction have been told they have porn addictions their whole lives, and many of them, crucially, by their wives and girlfriends.

Gam-gam and her bodice-ripper in the middle of an airport is a surprise.
"WOMEN NO WANT TO TOUCH PEE-PEE?! MUST BE NO FUN PRUDES ANYWAYS!"
Yeah man. Watch out she might really expect you to be a 2 dicked cyber werewolf from planet Fuck. The standards are so high.
Like oh no, you might have to take a walk once a week, shower regularly, and be willing to wear a nice suit to restaurants. OPPRESSED.
Meanwhile, he's watching hentai where slim women with massive, gravitity-defying breasts are having sex with tentacle monsters. 🙄

Your skills are desperately needed here.
Children, the lot of them.
Oops, that was supposed to be a joke.
....worf has 2...?

But now I realize I basically peeked at my mom’s playboys
"OMG WOMEN BE WRITING FREAKY FETISH STU-" my common ancestor in Dawkins, have you ever heard of DeviantArt
So really omegaverse has set legal precedents which makes it more real than most erotica subgenres.
...the earth? The internet??
