I'm about to either cause you a lot of grief or make you feel better lol, but the grammar difference between these words is entirely made up. there's no real grammatical reason or rule why they shouldn't be used interchangeably. Same with further/farther.

Honestly this is partially why I persist in shortening “you” to “u” I’m not down with snobbery in any form
