I am with you a vacation is not a vacation when you have little ones unless it is a trip to take them to do kid activities. Then they are on vacation and you are working. I don’t know if you have to pay for them or at least pay full price so maybe it is a good get away.
Adult children whatever fine. But little kiddos… they just ruin my buzz, man. If parents wanna bring their kids on phish vaycay that’s their business but keep them away from my $3k+ phishcation (that I’ve never gone to and prob won’t go to)
I remember my wife and I flying to Grand Cayman one time and there were 3 different couples on board with infants. Like, WTF are you doing? The kids not gonna remember it at all and having them along will make you not enjoy it at all.
I like that take. Yeah, I’d rather go to Mexico and not parent, but I agree, if I have to parent anyway, I’d rather do it somewhere more fun than here.
Two of my friends brought their baby and their grandparents to watch the baby when they’re at the shows and tbh if you’re in to phish and have a baby and want a family vacation it’s sort of perfect?
I mean, some people (parents) who REALLY want to go have no other choice. If the kids are safe & cared for & the parents can shake their bones, what’s the problem?
And there should be a place for those without kids to enjoy themselves as adults if that’s clearly stated in the description of the resort. I’ve been on both sides of this & I can empathize with kidless adults & parents with kids. #ThePartyNeverStops
i mean, i'm considering it... my friends did this the other year with their 3 kids, all under 10. i mean, it's not a terrible vacation - all inclusive, parents can be as wasted as they want (safest to do in turns), and you can wander back to the room if it's too much and still enjoy.
@rosesarephree.bsky.social & I encountered a wild ass mom at Magna, totally high, having the time of her life running back and forth in her cargo skirt & sensible sneakers
Actually real talk I’ll try to find some old pics if I remember in a bit. We used to have this little pen we called the Thunderdome. We would get a whole group and literally circle the wagons (strollers) so drunks couldn’t stumble through.
My oldest kids have been to Dead shows with me and my youngest kids have been seeing Phish with me since 2009. Why would I not want my kids to love what I love?
Exactly my take. Both my kids have been seeing shows of all varieties basically since birth. We of course to plenty of things without them too, that’s just life with kids.
I take my kid to shows and on vacation all the time but he’s been bigger than me since he was 14 so he’s great for his brawn - carrying luggage up steps, standing ground in the pit, seeing over everyone in line, he’s very useful
This is a key difference between Phish fans and Deadheads. My daughter saw her 1st Dead show at 3 months old, not because we thought it was cool, it was the only way we got to go.
i look forward to taking my son some day. but mostly i just don't want to be responsible for anyone other than myself when i'm at a phish show. maybe when i grow up i will ;-)
That last part is the key, of course! I don’t drink and if I’m with my kids at a show I don’t smoke either. Hell, I rarely smoke at shows anymore just because I’ve gotten too paranoid for the drive home 🤣
So since I’m not partying like that anyway the family party is an easy choice.
I took the Kid to her first show when she was 7. She didn't pester anyone, slept thru the whole second set, then we drove home. I think there's a HUGE difference between a show, and a 4-night all-inclusive hedonistic vaca where there's going to be 24/7 drugs/drinking/fucking etc. Leave them home.

Ok but wait. Adult children? Or small children?
YOU CAN’T ESCAPE
I can’t find anything of the exact Thunderdome but you can see part of it in the bottom of the right picture.
This was a many a year ago otherwise I wouldn’t normally post the kiddos.
It’s nice we finally get some kids areas. Mondegreen nailed it.
For my part, my dad was a musician.
It honestly never occurred to me to NOT bring my kids and I’m 43. It’s always been more fun with them imo.
So since I’m not partying like that anyway the family party is an easy choice.
Also, my kids saw Phish before you did. 😁
Kid out here crushing the stat game.
