On the left, being extreme can get you attention, but little institutional respect, and the $ is a small pot of Patreon subs and Podcast ad revenue.
On the right, it's the surest path to all three.

What I'm noticing is that, after while, the supposedly independent Rightist thinker's views start fusing with the headbangers. It doesn't work the other way - the headbangers do not learn and become more nuanced over time.
One might call it 'populist osmosis'.
