Thanks for that @grogsgamut.bsky.social.
Something I’m confused about: if the tariffs are mostly bad news for Americans (except it might increase buying of home-grown stuff and reduce some buying of imports), why was Canada so quick to do some in return? What’s the cost/benefit of retaliating?
I am not an expert by any sense. The Canadian Tariffs from US are not on all goods, mostly goods that can also be purchased from Canadian suppliers. In some cases, like US alcohol, it was removed from store shelves. An effort to reduce reliance from US and promote Canadian and other countries.
Missed opportunity to cosplay Mr Squiggle by Grogs. And once again we have @amyremeikis.bsky.social behind the camera when she should be front and centre so we can see her cardigan choice for today. But I am impressed that Amy calls the great man Grogs.
Probably the same reason the lnp did the same when they were in power. supposedly to keep the costs down for the consumer but that's not working well is it.
Good summary @grogsgamut.bsky.social - only thing I would include is that for Australia, as a highly exposed exporting nation, a move more globally to this protectionist stance promoted by Trump administration will not be a good thing for Australians in the long run. #agsky
Trumps senseless tarrifs.
Bluescope steel, the largest Australian exporter to the U.S also has a steel plant in Ohio employing 4000 Americans.
I mean, wouldn't it make sense to except Australia as an example of a country doing exactly what the U.S wants.
Or is that too rational for Trump?

Americans pay the trump tariffs.

I suppose she has a gut full though…

But it highlights that trump can not be trusted to honour existing agreements or relationships

Thank you

But USA is not self-sufficient & dearer imported components of US products will negate any such advantage
Unless #Krasnov breaks the embargo & doesn't impose tariffs on Russian goods?
Some US manufacturing costs will also increase due to higher import costs for materials where tariffs apply. Steel as one example.
