Libraries generate profit to the community simply by development & the halo spending in the surrounding community. That’s not including the ROI on community development
Libraries are crucial to climate resilient communities. In the Hudson Valley they are providing first-ever ground-level neighborhood air quality measurements -- https://cesh.bard.edu/csl/purple-air-library-network/
I put forward the idea of a bookstore where you can borrow the book for a while with a card,or pay for it right there if you have no intention of ever returning it
Oh wait , that's me with every book I ever took from a library
Well said 💚 As a student in Manchester UK in the 70's I went to the City Library on Saturdays to revise ... and probably spent more time in the coffee shop. Beautiful historic building, ancient books but terrible coffee 🧜♀️😎
But they could be even more profitable if they got rid of all the books and just sold coffee. This is how introducing capitalism where it’s not needed works.
Possibly true, but not everything that's profitable is also valuable...weapons manufacture comes to mind, whereas libraries are intrinsically valuable even if not $$$ profitable
