My wife did 3 nights from ER, to ICU, to general care and we still don't know why. I'll tell you one thing, the lingering thought of how we'll ever pay for this does not help with the stress of that situation.

went to the E/R couple months ago. Waited like 8 hours. they did nothing. literally nothing. checked me in. but never treated me. they tried to get me to sign a form and waive liability. lmao.

In Ireland this summer I spent 4 nights in the hospital with Covid and Pneumonia and they apologized as they handed me a non-EU resident bill of $500 a night. Then the nurse came by and said - wait she had Covid, that’s still covered under public health emergency policy so no charge.

One major factor that lead me back to Japan 20 years ago was my estimated dental surgery cost was going to be, like, $8500.

I got it done for 3000 円 by an English-speaking dentist in Yokohama. Insanity.

about ~5 years ago I heard stories of people flying to Barcelona for dental work staying for 5 days, and coming out having spent less money than if they'd stayed in the US and had the work done.

We didn't even choose the dental insurance option at my husband's work because we go to the dentist in Mexico when we visit his parents who retired there. He had to get an implant recently and it was gonna be like $6k here. Mexican dentist did it for less than $200. Then it got loose (happens a lot)

And local dentist wanted like $1k to fix it. He flew to Mexico and had it fixed for free. The dentist down there even apologized.

I got a CAT scan of my head -- which my insurance here won't ever approve even though I had a burst brain aneurysm -- for $120 there, it is $5k here.

My mother in law lives in Michoacan so that's where we go. Unless you have a reason to travel that far into Mexico you probably want someplace near the border. I might have a suggestion in Tijuana but I don't know anyone in Mexicali or Nogales.
