How is Parable of the Sower? I loved Kindred but I haven't gotten to read any of her books. I've tried reading 1984 on multiple times, but never got into it. I love Animal farm though. I hope to read the rest.
Ooh, fun! I read 3/4 of those, I have Foundryside but haven't started it yet, does it fit the theme? I didn't think it was dystopian/speculative fiction.
If you want another book, I’d recommend “It Can’t Happen Here” by Sinclair Lewis. A fantastic and equally horrifyingly parallel of what is going on now, written during the Great Depression before the US really clued into just how aggressive Hitler was.
The Butler book is a very good read and parts seem to reflect today’s news. The follow up book Parable of the Talents is even more like it was written yesterday and based on current events. Happy reading!
I’ll be doing a lot of reading the next few years. Starting with the banned list. 💁🏻♀️. Rereading what I’ve already read and catching up with what I never got around to. Seems like a better use of my time than continuous doom scrolling.
I just finished Parable of the Sower about 10 minutes ago. Holy wow, couldn’t put it down. Plan on going to the bookstore tomorrow for Parable of the Talents.
Probably if you're in UK. I heard you can get arrested based on your internet post. While, I try my best to avoid confrontational conversations online, I think most people go out of their way to hurt you with words. I do find it very difficult to find the line between free speech and censorship.
Hmm... I remember rereading 1984, 8 years ago, right about this time of the year. Haunting. Prescient. Glad I reread it and also sort of wish I hadn't. Make Oceania Great Again, I guess...
Parable is one of my favorite books. Absolutely a fantastic read start to finish. I encourage you to read Parable of the Talents (the sequel) if you enjoy it!

Reading it so young was a good thing for me in my opinion and so SO important when you really start to grasp it

It’s not fiction. But more of a text book on “Human Empowerment and the Quest for Emancipation.”
I actually found quite inspirational and poignant for the now.
Animal Farm- highly recommend
I missed in earlier years
