If you are looking to do your part in saving democracy, I highly recommend you buy and read ONE book: Howard Zinn’s a People’s History of America. It’s a MUST read. It’s not for the faint of heart, but we are at war for the soul of this nation & you have to be hardened to face the fight READ IT!

💯

just stumbled on a real jaw-dropper of a line in an essay -- “The corollary of being interested in a great range of things is to have sympathy with a great range of outlooks” -- and that, my friends, is why reading is so important.

The part of your brain the creates and the part of your brain that edits are different. When you edit while writing, you switch your mode of thinking and can gum up the works, so to speak, knocking yourself out of your groove. Correct obvious mistakes, but knock out your pages and edit them after.

A lot of you make jokes about guillotines but few of you have been getting your woodworking and metalworking skills up. Get those callouses made, babes.

sorry for getting ✨️political✨️ on the good vibes and video games app again, but the human brain is not designed to withstand another 207 weeks of this shit so pace yourself and try to channel that anger, despair, and hopelessness into something productive. make some kick ass art, we will need it

Spent 25 years conforming to others opinions, standards & expectations & compromised my character to be who others wanted me to be...being fake & caring more about quantity to say that I had "friends" I paid a high price & was a tough journey to reclaim my power & be who I am (voice, backbone, etc)

If you're feeling overwhelmed, it's intentional. They're calling it "flooding the zone." The intent is to overwhelm and exhaust us so we can not effectively resist. Something simple you can do right now now is to make sure to take breaks and rest.

Tulip presenting her head for a kiss.

People are seeking books to teach their kids about diversity & belonging. What I hear: They're looking for books from a plethora of perspectives! Here are a few books, you & your kids may already be reading them ☺️ (🧵 1/4)

Sometime I should write a short story about the Frankenstein that would be constructed if all of the thing people projected onto me were true

i love drawing but it thinks we should see other people

I like this one

Spite's a great motivator. I wrote twelve books that way. If you're feeling pissed off at the fuckery afoot? Spite, yo. It'll get you far.

I love when people are bullies in horror movies then they get k*lled lol

hmm... question for people! I've been mulling this over, but does anyone ever have a weird feeling about doing similar concepts as other artists? I do understand nothing's truly "original" besides your own spin on something, but it's a hurdle I can't seem to overcome. I fret over being a copycat

I’m telling everyone: Do not open the door or say a word unless you’re expecting someone and know exactly who it is. Know your rights. Pass these around…

As much as it would seem so. Agony and suffering aren’t the only ways art can and should exist. Even for relatability.

“Hope. It is the only thing stronger than fear. A little hope is effective. A lot of hope is dangerous.” When you’re afraid just remember.

Reading is so wild. Like, I’m simultaneously deciphering marks on a page and picturing the narrative those marks are conveying. I’m both in my body and also in the middle of the story. When I really think about it, I’m just so amazed that my brain can do all of that. Anyway! Carry on.

Unfortunately

I like art. I like to make art. I hope it makes you feel, even just a little, sometimes.

This probably seems grim, but given recent events, it might be a good idea to publicly display a declaration of life, especially if you fall into one of the target demographics Take mine or make your own:

You can be unpredictable, chaotic, and still be kind

Something I don't see creatives talk about so much is the crushing letdown and depression that can follow finishing up a huge project that has consumed you. Like you are suddenly cut adrift with no purpose. Got to reach for a lifeboat. That next thing...

I’ll be staying inside books for the next four years. At least their villains are contained to a page.
