real, the bands i've seen live i became a bigger fan of as a result
granted haven't seen many bands live but all the shows i've been to have kicked ass, saw rare americans, royal blood, silversun pickups, the folk implosion, and X, each were great in their own ways
Had this experience with my favorite band. They’re great in the studio but holy hells do they absolutely break my mind live. I’ve never seen a bunch of Aussie goofs having so much fun on stage
So much this. I was at a concert last night and watching the way the performer filled the stage and told *his* story in music made me run to my Spotify and listen closely to the songs I didn't know
This so true.
I've taken to finding live videos of bands I am interested in before I start going through their records. It's easier for me to get in tune with the artist that way. I feel.
If they're playing an instrument. 100%
If it's a Karaoke, I'll pass.
The way Ed Sheeran plays with loops he makes 'on the spot' live, is something to behold.
Amazing.

Yeah, so far I’ve only had that happen with openers tho where I listened to them afterwards and got significantly better mixing and could actually understand what they were saying
I also had this happen to me with a band I had followed from their first release. The concert felt super phoned-in with zero audience interaction, and every since I've felt this air of superiority and self-aggrandizement from the band, completely fell out of love with their music.
because (surprise-surprise) people tend to attend concerts for the experience of contact and emotional attachment to the artist and not only music itself, so I def know the feeling
This is so true whether they play instruments or sing. This is going to sound corny, because it is just Disney.. Two weeks ago I got to hear Jodi Benson singing Part of Your World live.It was so much better than any soundtrack/recording. Live performances can transport us. Love being in person.
It's terrible to admit, but on a visceral level, you're taking a recording on trust, but seeing them on stage, you think "Holy Mother of God, she/he can actually *do* that!"
I feel like his if I happen to see an orchestra playing music in a youtube video or something. Seeing them playing the instruments all together, instead of just hearing the music, makes it more sound more potent!
It’s so true - just listening to my favourite musician back to back at the moment after watching him live recently. Somehow, the events in the moment, the connection, the audience all seem to amplify the sound, lyrics and the emotion. I guess that’s what makes it powerful.
It really does honestly. I just saw a King Crimson spin off band called BEAT the other day, and it made me realize just how good 80s King Crimson music aside from the stuff on Discipline is! Now I think Beat and TOPP are massively underrated!
Went to see taylor swift with/for friends, I liked her two most recent albums but hearing songs from Speak Now and Red live completely changed my opinion but now I jsut wish I could listen to it live all the time, sad
Truth! I saw Gary Numan a few years back, and he put on such a great show that I immediately collected everything he’s recorded. Even two 7-up commercials.
REAL
Saw my favorite artists live for the first time last year, even got VIP tickets so got a whole meet n greet, and it was so much fun! Made some core memories
This tweet is directly referencing how much more I appreciate "SMILE :D" after the concert. I still like Nurture and Worlds more but smile has gone from meh to okay he cooked actually
Since this is getting more likes then I thought here's some random music recs, listen to BETA by Peter Cat Recording Co, Yumeno Garden by Last Dinosaurs and Trust Ceremony by Jhariah. Peter Cat is more Jazzy, Last Dinosaurs is Indie Rock, and Jhariah I don't really know what word to use lmao
I feel like the songs I wasn’t feeling fond of before (year of the cup, everything to me, easier to love you) made so much more sense live. and it fits being in the environment where he metaphorically wrote the album from, just being with a bunch of fans
Last night, Jeffrey Straker a Canadian singer/ songwriter. He is playing the last leg of his current UK tour tonight in Scarborough. Might not be your thing but he is seriously good.
Went in with ‘Easier to love you’ & ‘all of me’ in D tier. Left the arena with them both in A tier :’) theres not a single bad song on the album actually
The whole concert was so intense that I have not been able to stop listening to the album. Esp the part in Mona Lisa where the whole concert was chanting. The entire experiance is so vibrant and so so so so much fun.
So true. I met ScHoolBoyQ right before covid on the CrasH tour in jan 2020. he was such a nice guy and then seeing him perform was incredible too. was my first concert ever and I've appreciated him all the much more ever since
Lol I read this and was like "oh yeah this is how I felt about the Porter concert" then clicked through. My favorite part was actually the rock band arrangements of Nuture songs--really made me appreciate both the new stuff and see the older stuff in a new light
My now wife spent multiple years convincing me that the Mountain Goats were A Thing, and I didn’t Get It until I was awash in hundreds of people belting out This Year and Up the Wolves live and in person.
I hear ya. I saw Dawes live a few years back and while I knew Taylor Goldsmith was a talented singer and songwriter, it wasn’t until I saw him live that I realized he’s a great performer too. The performer aspect of an artist really comes out when you see them live.
I saw lots of live bands in the 70s and 80s.
The best investment you can ever make is a concert ticket.
My first one was Lou Reed in the mid 70s, got me hooked.
Every time you hear a song by a band you saw live it takes you back to that night, you can see the people you were with.......
Feels. I only liked a few songs from parkway drive, but saw them live with I prevail, and now I vibe heavily with their music. Already liked I prevail, but like them a lot more now too
That’s me. I also get annoyed at myself because I actually end up learning the songs AFTER the gig and think to myself “I wd have enjoyed the concert even more if I knew the songs beforehand”.
There's a certain energy with live musical performances that is just so intoxicating that makes ya just fall in love with your favorite artist all over again. I absolutely hate crowds and ya would have to drag me to another show, but they are always an experience.
That has happened to me. I would accompany friends to a concert of a band/singer I didn't care for just to keep them company and wound up being a fan. Also, hearing a song in person can be a totally enlightening experience.
Concerts back in the day before cell phones were freaking amazing. It felt like you were part of it. Now it's just a show for people to record. I miss the old days
Feeling like you were part of it - yes! Concertgoers went a show for a unique, personal experience that they would hold in their memory bank rather than sharing a likeness of a concert in near-real-time with followers for likes and reactions.
i saw bring me the horizon live for my 18th birthday and it's probably one of the best moments i've had in life so far, the music was great, the audience was great, the beer was great
I’m currently in a bar listening to a Fort Lauderdale local band named the Alive Beat (2 guitars, 1 drummer), and I’ve been paying some attention to their guitar work.
I can really appreciate the amount of work they’ve been putting into just their basic chords, let alone tricky progressions.
yeah, i've only seen some, not very popular, but its very good that they do it live instead of a disco so that they can sing more closely with the fans and interact with them. i feel like theres not a good amount due to anxiety and fear of performing with an audience.
For me it's less an appreciation for an artist (usually already a HUGE fan if I'm going to see them live) and more an appreciation for certain songs that I may not have listened to as often before. A big example for me was Comics by Caravan Palace. That song goes unreasonably hard live.

It really is a thing.

Going to see a band live in a small venue on monday
Gonna have a blast

Artpop is my favourite album of hers because of it.
MANiCURE live was phenomenal.
Saw my favorite artists live for the first time last year, even got VIP tickets so got a whole meet n greet, and it was so much fun! Made some core memories
Is a minor risk tho, sucks when it turns out they can't play live 😭

Like, I go to a concert and for the next two months I can't stop listening to them
I was so sad when he died, brilliant singer.....
Plus, finding parking is a nightmare and leaving the stadium when it's finished is even worse
I saw Snoop once…
Now, I barely want to leave my house. 😪
I’m also fascinated the original post can go two wildly different directions depending on how you interpret the word “live.”
Whole other experience!
Watching and hearing them play some of my favourites was so unbelievably cool
